Was this Verstappen's motivation? 'Perez put him in the wall on purpose'

Max Verstappen indicated via the team radio that he "had his reasons" for not passing teammate Sergio Perez at the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix. The Dutchman remains cryptic, but Tom Coronel thinks he knows what those reasons are.

In the Viaplay broadcast, Coronel suggests that Verstappen still had a score to settle with his teammate for something that happened earlier in the season. "There is one more point that I know still needs to be put right, and that is qualifying in Monaco," the analyst began.

Verstappen had a bone to pick with Perez

In the qualifying session in question, Perez was on pole but ended up in the wall while Verstappen was on a flying lap. He had to abort that as a result and there was too little time to make another attempt. Coronel continued: "That's where Perez made a mistake. He took pole position with that and seriously pegged his teammate. He just deliberately put him in the wall."

Telegraph journalist Erik van Haren confirmed Coronel's suggestion on Twitter. "Pérez deliberately crashed in Monaco in qualifying and later admitted as much to Helmut Marko and Christian Horner. Max Verstappen has not forgotten that," Van Haren said.

I wish Max had let him go, but this is certainly not the reason why he didn't.

Either way, he shouldn't have been airing his grudges within the team in public!

An interesting quote on another web page read "Don't ask questions to which you don't want the answer". Why ask Max on the radio "what happened there?" He's going to give you an earful. Talk about it later in private, because the damage was already done.

Perez: should I headbanging or nodding?

Max: that what a second fiddle always do

'Perez put himSELF in the wall on purpose'
god, the editorial on this site terrible at times (or was this deliberate for click-bait?)

Perez was P3 in those quali not on pole. Seems like a bs from dutch journalist to try clean Max

JB_2009 14 November 2022 at 24:28+ 794

True, Perez was in P3 when he crashed.

Not just one journalist reporting but as the article says Tom Coronel as well. Who is pretty much the Martin Brundle at viaplay. Ex-racing driver included (nearly got F1 seat and long term driver in WTCC).

Not saying this is true for sure, but an awfull lot of smoke.
And apparently the same was brought up at SKY

Well, this means a few things.
Pérez should be penalized for doing that at Monaco ??.

Max holds a grudge and will take his revenge when the opportunity presents itself .

Both Redbull drivers aren't painting themselves in a good light ?

JB_2009 14 November 2022 at 24:31+ 794

Yes, max should have dealt with it internally and let Perez past.

Now you’ll see things will escalate as journalists will dig into it. Potentially causing damage to Perez/RB if the rumors are true.

thef1fan 13 November 2022 at 22:51+ 542

If this is true and if Checo intentionally crashed in Monaco, and admitted that then he deserves some punishment. Just like Schumacher was demoted to the back of the grid for intentionally crashing in Monaco 2006.

Yikes. Well it makes sense now. Shameful stuff from Perez.

Honestly It Doesn't matter, What Max did was prideful, egotistic and unnecessary.
When a mad man strips his clothes, you don't go and strip your clothes too to prove a point

Ok, now they're even. Move on and stop being childish, both of you!

What Crofty said on live broadcast was true then.

Trail-Runner 13 November 2022 at 22:29+ 1810

It was Brundle who called it.

Not to be Captain Corrector.

Brundle just mentioned Monaco, Crofty explained it completely. 50-50?

He just did what Charles did the year before, so that’s nothing new at Monaco where overtaking is almost impossible and starting track position is everything….. though I am sure Charles accident was not intentional but just one of the many errors he has been making throughout his career.

F1HotFan 13 November 2022 at 22:49+ 7334

Yea still disappointed Max. He is young and quite mature for his age but this concession to Sergio was a little thing he could have done.

maverick75 14 November 2022 at 04:05+ 18743

Yes, quite petty from Max. It's not like he was still fighting for the championship like in Monaco. It wasn't much to ask and would have earned him respect. He has another chance to do the right thing in Abu Dhabi if he gets the opportunity.

ITsVerstappening 14 November 2022 at 07:08+ 1120

We realize what Checo did was borderline cheating right? I'd be pissed too.

maverick75 14 November 2022 at 07:16+ 18743

True, but the right thing to do would be to clear it up right there and then and not carry the grudge forward. Exhibiting it publicly like this made Max look bad and humiliated Checo and Red Bull.
