Marko knows how Wolff feels now: "That's why there is no gloating"

Between 2014 and 2020, the world drivers' and constructors' titles went to Mercedes each time. The German racing stable was dominant for many years, but in 2022 and 2023 the gap to the absolute number one on the grid (Red Bull Racing) is particularly large. Helmut Marko does not feel sorry for the rival, but there is absolutely no gloating.

Red Bull Racing and Sebastian Vettel won all world titles between 2010 and 2013, but a long period of drought followed. The Milton Keynes-based formation trailed for years before finally becoming truly successful again from 2021. Not being competitive enough for so many years hurts. Marko, therefore, knows better than anyone what Mercedes is going through right now.

"I don't care who is in which place. The most important thing is that we are first. I know how Toto Wolff feels now, we also suffered for seven years. That is why there is no gloating," Marko explained to Sport Bild. Mercedes is currently working hard to find more pace with the W14. A reorganisation has now taken place and we are going to see several updates in the coming months.

Will Red Bull be copied?

It is also not completely out of the question that Mercedes is moving more and more towards Red Bull with its concept of the bolide. Certain parts or technical gadgets might be copied by Wolff's team. However, Marko is not at all worried about this, he even understands it.

"Copying is daily business in Formula 1. There is nothing dishonourable about it either. It's about having the fastest car possible and celebrating success. You don't accept years of non-performance just because you are too proud to admit that others have done better," said the Austrian consultant.

The end of 7 years of gloating didn't come quick enough.

At the end of the 7 year gloat, was the statement, "Mercedes don't make mistakes "!!!
Boy, did that backfire spectacularly!

Maybe the biggest mistake is expecting to remain at the top of the game forever and putting your hopes on the same person, solely based on historical achievements, instead of backing the person who will be bringing the results for the team in the future.

I like Dr. Marko. He is straight to the point , no BS, and you always know where you stand with him (good or bad). As an added bonus and to the best of my knowledge I have never seen him sitting down for an interview with DTS. For him it is not playing up to the cameras and trying to be a celebrity like it is for many others. For him it seems to be about winning.

Is there truth to the rumors of Helmut Marko retiring? He is tough and outspoken and that is not all bad.
