From FP2 onwards, Oscar Piastri did not look back. After showing his pace in FP3 in Saturday's first session, the Australian driver claimed his second pole position of the season. It might just prove to be a key result, as so far this season, only driver that started from P1 on the grid could win.

It was expected that George Russell will line up alongside the McLaren driver, but after both him and Andrea Kimi Antonelli received a one-place grid penalty for not following the race director's instructions in Q2. That promoted Charles Leclerc to the front row of the grid, and Pierre Gasly up to P4.

After a disappointing Saturday, Lando Norris will start from sixth position on the grid. His championship rival, Max Verstappen finished in seventh place. For the first time this season as well, the Dutchman's teammate has made it through to the final session on the Saturday. Yuki Tsunoda finished in P10, lining up a place behind Carlos Sainz and alongside Lewis Hamilton.

In terms of the drivers' championship, only a single point separates Lando Norris and Verstappen. Oscar Piastri is currently third, 13 points behind his McLaren teammate. Russell currently has four points less than Piastri, as the Briton is in P4.

Looking at the constructors' standings, McLaren have a decent 36-point lead ahead of Mercedes.
