Norris on 'awkward restart': 'I'll work on that!'

6 May - 07:30

Lando Norris managed to win the Miami Grand Prix partly thanks to the safety car's input. At the restart, things were exciting for a while, as Max Verstappen was alert and almost managed to regain the lead. Yet Norris stayed ahead of him. The Brit talks about the restart after the safety car after the race.

The McLaren driver was allowed to set the pace after the safety car went in, but he started pushing at an awkward point, allowing Verstappen to attempt an overtake. Norris puts this down to the fact that he hasn't done it regularly in recent times.

Norris on restart

"I've not done many safety car restarts from the front for a good amount of years. So, yes, just a bit rusty," Norris said. "I'll make sure I work on it a little bit more for next time. But yes, as long as I defended well into Turn 1 and kept the lead in Turn 1, I was quite confident I could go from there"

The McLaren driver continued: "The pace was good enough in the first stint. Maybe didn't look at the very beginning just because I was stuck behind a lot of cars. But having clean air, having fresher tyres as well, I could push and I was a little bit wary that Max normally is a bit slow off the mark and then all of a sudden clicks it into gear two and he's gone. But not today."
