Russell puts together faster laps than Red Bull in Pirelli test at Monza
- Jeroen Immink
After the Italian Grand Prix, testing is in full swing at the Monza circuit. For tyre manufacturer Pirelli, Liam Lawson (Red Bull) and George Russell (Mercedes) got into their F1 cars. GPblog has the final results of the tests at the 'Temple of Speed'.
Big difference Red Bull and Mercedes during test
Following Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc's spectacular win at the Italian Grand Prix, testing was in full swing at Monza. In it, Red Bull proved, not only in the last few weeks but also during the test, to be significantly short of Mercedes. In particular, the fastest lap times between Russell and Lawson were huge. Russell clocked a 1:20.747 on behalf of Mercedes, while Lawson set a 1:22.126 for Red Bull. In doing so, Russell also drove 127 laps and Lawson 104.
Lawson can recover on Wednesday, but it will not be easy. The New Zealander will then take his place in the VCARB, while Mercedes will also be in attendance. In doing so, Ferrari will not sit still either. The Italian racing stable will complete a Pirelli test at their home track Fiorano, too.
In recent months, Red Bull has lost a lot of ground on rivals McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes. This has resulted in Max Verstappen failing to win six races in a row already.
