Critical Marko says Tsunoda is "feeling the pressure from Lawson"
Helmut Marko was extremely critical of Yuki Tsunoda after his crash in qualifying, saying "he is feeling the pressure from [Liam] Lawson now." Both VCARB drivers know that Sergio Perez's seat at Red Bull Racing for the 2025 season is certainly not secure, so a great end to the season for either driver could give them the opportunity to replace the Mexican.
Marko critical of "unnecessary" Tsunoda crash
It's been a very good season for the Japanese driver in 2024 with 22 points to his name. However, it has been two Grand Prix weekends in a row where we have seen a mistake from the usually consistent Tsunoda, with his most recent mistake coming in the form of a crash in qualifying at the Mexican Grand Prix, resulting in him missing out on a final lap in Q2 that ultimately knocked him out of qualifying.
The VCARB driver damaged his floor in the crash, and Marko was left unimpressed at that incident: "He has a newer floor than Lawson. I don't even know if they have a spare. If not, he would have to start from the last place. So it was an unnecessary crash, I would say," Marko stated to the German branch of Sky Sports.
The Red Bull advisor was not happy with Tsunoda's performance, and according to the Austrian, the Japanese driver is now feeling some pressure after Lawson's arrival to the team: "He had a spin in Austin and now this crash in qualifying. We thought he had stabilised, but apparently, he is feeling the pressure from Lawson now," Marko said.
