A new Race Director will make his debut in Formula 1 this weekend. The FIA has decided that Niels Wittich could no longer be the race director. Formula 1 drivers previously stated that they were completely unaware of this news. Max Verstappen to the drastic change in Formula 1.
"I read the news and I just continued with my day. Of course, it's a bit weird with three races to go to do that. It doesn't matter if you're positive or negative about certain things, which I thought in Brazil there was definitely room for improvement for example," Verstappen said speaking to GPblog and others.
Verstappen on the strange timing
"It's still a bit weird to now have to deal with a different race director. Normally, if you want to change a race director maybe you do it after a season. Then you have a bit of time for the race director himself to get up to speed with things, you have the pre-season testing and you get into your role a bit more but let's see how it goes. They have decided it and we have to deal with it," said the reigning world champion.
George Russell, the president of the Grands Prix Drivers Association, already said that the drivers had not pushed for Wittich's departure and that the decision came from the FIA itself.
