Ecclestone to sell F1 car collection that could fetch eye-watering amount
Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone is set to sell a collection which includes rare F1 cars driven by some of the biggest names in the sport's history. He will sell a collection of 69 F1 and Grand Prix cars, including some driven by Michael Schumacher, Niki Lauda, Stirling Moss and others.
Ecclestone, 94, was in charge of Formula 1 for almost 4 decades. He stepped back in 2017 when Liberty Media took over the reins. Ecclestone still occasionally visits the paddock and was present at the recent Brazilian Grand Prix, where he praised Max Verstappen highly. Ecclestone has seen pretty much everything in F1 history and was present at the first F1 World Championship race in 1950.
Why Ecclestone is selling his F1 car collection
"I am 94, and with luck, I might have a few years longer - who knows? - but I didn't want to leave Fabi [his wife] wondering what to do with them if I was no longer around. I love all my cars but maybe I should have done this five years ago, but I never got round to it until now," Ecclestone told the Daily Mail.
The collection includes Michael Schumacher's Ferrari from the 2002 season. That is expected to fetch more than £10million. Sir Stirling Moss's Vanwall VW10, which won the 1958 Constructors' Championship is also up for sale, along with classics driven by Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet and others.
