'Red Bull's best talent' follows the footsteps of Norris and Lawson
Red Bull are sending their biggest junior talent to Oceania this winter. Arvid Lindblad will be driving in FR Oceania Championship for the M2 Competition team in early 2025. According to Helmut Marko, that is mainly to collect points for his super licence.
"I’m really excited to be competing in the FR Oceania championship with M2 Competition. The team has been incredibly successful in the past winning many of the recent championships so there is no one better to be with," Lindblad said in the organisation's press release.
He continued: "It’ll be my first time in New Zealand so all the tracks will be new but I am really looking forward to the challenge of these fantastic circuits. The championship has been very successful with many competitors making it to Formula 1; therefore it’ll be great winter preparation for the Formula 2 Championship this year. I can’t wait to get started."
Red Bull's biggest talent according to Marko
Indeed, the list of winners of this championship includes several current Formula 1 drivers. For instance, Lance Stroll, Lando Norris and Liam Lawson won that regional title in 2015, 2016 and 2019 respectively. All three drivers also did so with M2 Competition, as at all the last six winners have come from that team.
According to Helmut Marko, this move for Lindblad is especially important for his super licence, necessary to become a F1 driver. If Lindblad is were to win the title this winter, he would gain 18 points, getting him to 33 points overall.
Lindblad was previously called by Helmut Marko as the biggest talent within the Red Bull Junior Team. After finishing fourth in his first season in Formula 3, he will be promoted to Formula 2. There, Lindblad will take Isack Hadjar's seat at Campos Racing, becoming fellow Red Bull junior, Pepe Marti's teammate. With an expiring contract for Yuki Tsunoda and Isack Hadjar in his first season at Racing Bulls, a seat in F1 is could be on the cards for the winner of that duel.
