Gian Carlo Minardi on Red Bull Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson

'Verstappen puts his teammates in trouble at Red Bull Racing'

So far in the 2025 season, Max Verstappen has scored 36 points. Red Bull Racing have just as many points on the board in the constructors' standings as well. Former team boss of sister team Racing Bulls, Gian Carlo Minardi, discusses the situation present at the Austrian team.

Minardi: 'Verstappen puts teammates in trouble'

The Italian sees the pattern of Verstappen's teammates not being up to speed compared to the Dutchman. "Red Bull has quite a different problem, if we can call it that, in the sense that it finds itself once again racing with only one driver, Max Verstappen. However, it is not possible that whoever comes alongside him has such enormous difficulties," he wrote on his team's website.

Liam Lawson has said on multiple occasions that he is not yet comfortable in the RB21. Minardi also sees that while Red Bull are trying to build a car for Verstappen's style, the teammate loses out considerably. "Probably it is a particularly difficult car to drive and control, because it is completely built around the Dutchman, who has a specific driving style and thus causes problems for his teammates. I find it hard to think of any other explanation, as the same 'family members' are performing faster and better than Lawson," he continued.

After the Chinese Grand Prix, rumours began swirling about whether Red Bull Racing may once again switch drivers, potentially giving a chance to Yuki Tsunoda for the Japanese Grand Prix.
