Alonso happy with criticism: 'They were a blessing'

Fernando Alonso was criticised for his racing at the beginning of the season. The Spaniard was said to be underperforming, but just before the summer break the driver proved that he still has the qualities.
Alonso finished seventh and fourth respectively at the last two Grands Prix in England and Hungary. The latter performance, in particular, was one to be proud of, as he held off Lewis Hamilton for a long time in it and teammate Esteban Ocon eventually won the race.
Alonso accepts criticism
The Alpine driver did not find it difficult to deal with the criticism, he told Soymotor.com. "They were a blessing because I knew that it was only a matter of time before people started to appreciate if I finished a race in 10th place. Had I always been in front of Ocon, had I always been in the points, the critics would have said what they’ve said throughout my career, which is that my team mate was not at the same level and that the car had more potential, but that I was missing out."
The driver then saw a clear twist. "Then, if suddenly they think I am done, anything I accomplish is appreciated much more. Some races were not great, like France for example, where I finished ninth. It was a good race, but nothing special. But it was considered to be a super performance because I was starting to do good races again. It was a good thing."
