Alex Zanardi looks to defy all odds by competing in the Daytona 24 hour race.
Zanardi had a horrific racing accident in 2001 where he lost both of his legs. However, the 52-year-old will race in the 24-hour race in Daytona. Zanardi will be driving a modified car which will see him use his hands to activate the cars breaks.
When speaking to CNN Zanardi said, "
I've asked the engineers in Munich to spend some time investigating the possibility to drive the car without my legs,"
"This means that I have to do everything with my hands but I think we identified a set of solutions which enables me to do this.
"I'm comfortable in the car. I could actually if the rules would allow, probably drive the 24-hour race on my own because physically speaking I feel well. I'm in a condition that is probably the best I've ever had in my in my life."
Zanardi has competed in a number of sporting events since his injury including the Para-Olympics. It will be interesting to see how he gets on this weekend.
