Max Verstappen is considered by many as the most talented driver on the grid but the Red Bull driver is yet to win a World Championship to prove it. David Coulthard has admitted he would understand if Max Verstappen wanted to leave the team in order to pursue a title.
Verstappen finished third in the Drivers' Championship in 2019, behind both Mercedes drivers. However, many believe he was driver of the season as he secured three race victories and achieved his first pole position in a weaker car compared to his rivals.
With the Dutchman's contract set to expire at the end of next season could Verstappen leave if Red Bull can't provide a competitive car? David Coulthard isn't ruling out the possibility.
"Max is one of the best drivers, but he has been limited somewhat by the car," Coulthard told De Telegraaf.
"It would be great for Formula 1 if the cars driven by Verstappen, Hamilton and Leclerc are all approximately equal – then we will see an exciting fight.
"But in the last six years, Mercedes has had the best car. I would really like to see Max stay at Red Bull, but I understand if he would want to leave if Red Bull and Honda cannot fight for the title in 2020.
"It's going to be a very important year for them."
Okay people, let's cut through the BULLSHIT already! Both Flash and Helmut have said that Red Bull is equal to Mercedes on more than one occasion. They have also claimed that Ferrari is the fastest car. If these facts are to be true, then for some guy to sit there, Mr. Coulthard and say that Max is the best driver on the circuit today, but lacks the equipment is absolutely ludicrous! Which one of you, if not all three are full of it?
Lewis almost has as many world driving championships as Max has wins. What planet do you live on? And what is it like to live there? I'm curious. My recommendation would be, come back to planet Earth and watch some race tapes. I think that you might find them very educational, oh, good luck. You're going to need it.
First off, the equal car comment stems from an ignorant perspective. So everybworld champion isn't the best driver, it's always the car? Hmmm... So Schumacher won those 7 championships just because of the car. Any driver with that car would have won 7 championships.I wonder why the sudden cry "If Max had a better car, he would have beat that guy." How many races did he blow due to overzealous driving, hard headedness and plain inability to check his ego. He's a talented, yet immature driver. That's why he came in 3rd.
What's the point in leaving before 2021. He could go to Mercedes and find Red Bull and Newey have the best car. If the car is a dog in 2021 then leave. Makes no sense before.
There's alittle " Brain Fade" going on in Amsterdam today..just like the Alonso article..
