Daniel Ricciardo is back in Formula 1 after a 10-race absence. At AlphaTauri, he did the qualifying for the Hungary GP at the Hungaroring. The Australian immediately beat teammate Yuki Tsunoda.
What Nyck de Vries failed to do all year, Ricciardo did at his first attempt. The Australian was faster than his teammate on track and qualified on P13. A performance to be proud of in an AlphaTauri. After the session, the returning F1 driver spoke to Sky Sports. There he said, "Getting in the car in qualifying, I was relaxed but knowing you are going to push the car to the limit on low fuel, simplifying everything felt really nice."."

What will Ricciardo do on Sunday?

Predicting what he can do on Sunday during the race is still proving difficult. "It's hard for me to say," Ricciardo continued. "I've done like an eight-lap long run so I don't know enough with this car and fuel as the tyres get old. That's where I'm probably going to discover more things with the car and in those conditions it always feels trickier."
If Ricciardo also manages to score points, he would immediately show that the choice to put him in the car instead of De Vries was the right one. Helmut Marko said as much immediately after qualifying. According to the Austrian, Ricciardo will take a boost to the team. Ricciardo: "Points would be phenomenal, but for now logging the laps and learn as I go."
