Former F1 driver turned Sky pundit Anthony Davidson has explained he is "saddened" after Lewis Hamilton revealed he has struggled with mental health issues. But the driver, who karted with Hamilton, felt "proud" of the seven-time World Champion and felt he could open up about his own anxiety battle.
Hamilton is, statistically, the greatest driver in the history of Formula 1. Nobody has won more races or secured more pole positions than the current Mercedes driver. But he revealed it hasn't always been easy. Speaking to The Sunday Times, he declared he has struggled with mental health throughout his life. "Depression. From a very early age, when I was, like, 13. I think it was the pressure of the racing and struggling at school. The bullying. I had no one to talk to."
The announcement triggered an outpouring of support, including from one of the leading figures at the mental health charity Mind. The topic has also reached Hamilton's former rivals. In the Sky Sports podcast, Davidson commented on the news.
“Lewis has had a real positive impact on the sport. He’s got that authority as a seven-time World Champion – whatever topic he chooses to talk about, people are going to listen, and he’s an intelligent human being anyway. I’ve grown up in the kart tracks with Lewis. I’ve been around him my whole life, I saw him arrive in those paddocks as an eight-year-old kid and as a trailblazer in our sport, an absolute trailblazer, and hats off to him. So for now, to be talking openly about mental health, and it saddens me, in many ways. I’m kind of proud he has come out and touched on mental health," Davidson said.
"It saddens me to think of all those days that I spent with him at the kart tracks, that he was going through that, but now he’s in a position where he feels like he can talk about it. I’ve suffered with anxiety issues, like real crippling anxiety in my days as a driver, and there was more to do with mental health, with health anxiety, which left me having panic attacks inside the car at times, and it’s awful. And for Lewis Hamilton to be talking about this, gives me the confidence to be able to talk about it as well," Davidson added.
The stigma around mental health is still alive and unfortunately thriving in the world. Good on Lewis opening up about his own experience. There is such a vast amount of different issues people need to deal with on daily basis. It helps a lot when well known athletes opens up on this subject.
I ask myself why he had the need to make fun of ROS when the later admitted in 2016 having hired a mental trainer.
But happy to see HAM getting mature over the last couple of years. ?
"I ask myself why he had the need to make fun of ROS when the later admitted in 2016 having hired a mental trainer."
That's very disappointing by Lewis Hamiton. Please share the links to the quote or the article, I really appreciate you help with this.
Yes i am glad that a number for the driver have shared about this topic , Lewis has certainly matured over the years .
I did search on the internet and couldn't find anything hence my humble request for help in finding the information ?
It was during a live interview after a race. I'm sure Chatgpt will be able to help you out.
Which live interview?
At which race was this interview at ?
Was it the post race interview?
Was it at the driver press conference ?
It's fine thou, if youre unable to provide the quotes or articles ? I understand.
Ps. Please if anyone else watched that interview please help me with a link to the clip or quote ?
Still dont see any fun making quotes, i read the quote and the article and Lewis simply self-aggrandizement. The Ros needed a performance coach to beat him. There's no fun making their, but you have your biases. When will you apologize for you lie ?
Yes Vegan, HAM made fun of ROS and he also made fun of PER. And on top of that you agree with this kind of behavior which shows what kind of person you are ?
I presented the quotes above, waiting for your apology.
@J41L, you said "he had the need to make fun of ROS"
In the article link you posted, he made non"fun" of Ros.
“In my whole career, I have never had to work with a life coach or a mental coach. I take it as a compliment that he is throwing everything and the toilet seat at it. Look at other sports. When people know they have to go up against Tiger Woods, or Serena Williams, they know they have to lift their game."
Please could you explain where in this article Lewis made " fun" of RoS .
I will certainly apologize when you present his quotes, not your or the writers opinion ?

"Hamilton perceives such an approach with thinly veiled disdain, regarding it as an affirmation of his superiority that he forced Rosberg to go to these lengths."
You own me apologies Vegan...
It must be real if you're saying so ✅️. ? ? ? J41L. Sorry my bad for doubting you. It would be nice if you did have a little more information, but I guess we will have go with your "memory". ? and your made up answers.....ohhh dear.
That's right, Rosberg didn't reveal it until a couple of years later. I believe he got the trainer in, not because he had mental issues, but because he needed someone to help him focus his mind towards doing the best job he could in the car, without getting distracted by what Lewis was doing with his.
Yeah Lewis hasn't had it easy. It's why I find him so inspirational, in that he came through it all. And, as a young kid, he kept his promise to Ron Dennis and drove for him in F1 and became champion. Almost did it in the first year.
Then when he won, I believe, his 7th, he came on the radio and said "that's for all you kids out there. Don't stop dreaming and believing" words to that effect.
Things like that I only see from Lewis. He's not going to make fun of someone else's mental health. I don't believe he's wired that way, especially after what he went through.
If anything, he's the guy who can relate to it more.
No no Vegan, it's real...
As a Chatgpt expert like you are, it should be peanuts for you to find that interview.
I actually was giving the user the benefit of the doubt.
It seems he was just doing as you say, sad ?.
I remember Rosberg saying no one knew that he was using a psychologist at the time, he only revealed that he dealing with the mental side in 2018. But I stand to be corrected . It is encouraging that drivers are being more open about their challenges, makes them less like robots and more like normal humans.
I seriously doubt you'll be provided with anything. I'm amazed he remembers exactly what Lewis said 8 years ago in an interview and yet can't or won't repeat the quote.
I think he's simply decided for himself that Lewis was making fun of Rosberg's mental health as opposed to him simply needing such a trainer to beat him.
Unless he meant ROScoe. :)
I suppose if you can make up assumptions as to why, just so you can maybe do a little more stirring on here or just to have something detracting to say, then I guess you can make up your own answers too.
