Felipe Massa can count on the support of former Ferrari team boss Jean Todt in his legal battle for the 2008 world title. Todt, who later became president of the FIA, does not want to get too deep into the case but agrees with Massa on one crucial point.
Massa has launched legal proceedings because he disagrees with the conduct of the 2008 Formula 1 season. In it, he lost the world title to Lewis Hamilton at the very last moment. The case centres on Crashgate, in which Nelson Piquet Jr. was instructed by Renault boss Flavio Briatore to deliberately crash Fernando Alonso to win the Singapore Grand Prix.
Statements by former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone prompted Massa to take legal action after 15 years. The 93-year-old Briton, who now claims to have no memory of the statements, claimed that everyone knew about the cheating, right up to the highest level of the organisation.
Todt fully agrees with Massa that the result of the Singapore GP should have been declared invalid. "I won't go into the controversy. For him, it was very difficult psychologically. Maybe we could have been stricter when the story came out. There is no doubt that the Singapore Grand Prix was rigged and should have been scrapped," Todt said to La Stampa.
Hear, hear. Justice for Massa. I think Hamilton should back his claim as well if he wants to be the paragon of fairness he claims to be.
Has Verstappen back Hamilton for what happened in Abu Dhabi 2021?I didn't read read something like that.
I don't believe Verstappen has ever positioned himself to be a 'paragon of fairness', or anything like that.
:)) :)) :)) So you recognize that the RBR golden boy :)) has nothing to do with the fairness?Don't worry , I ve noticed that thing myself.Anyway in that year Spa's Hamilton victory has been denied by the guys who was in front of FIA.As long as Hamilton hasn't been involved in that crashgate and Ferrari screwed with their pitstop I don't see why Hamilton will help Massa..This is a statement of Massa in 2021 after Abu Dhabi:Felipe Massa admits he is cheering for Max Verstappen to win the 2021 world championship. ''In 2008, in one of the most thrilling ends to a title battle in Formula 1 history, Massa came tantalisingly close to preventing Lewis Hamilton from winning his first championship. Now retired from F1, the 40-year-old Brazilian is back at his local circuit Interlagos this weekend to witness one of the concluding rounds to the similarly ultra-close and intense 2021 battle. He told Algemeen Dagblad newspaper that he would like Red Bull's Verstappen to succeed where he himself failed some 13 years ago. "We really need a new champion," he told the Dutch publication. "At least that's the case for me." He thinks Verstappen, 24, is finally ready to win his first title - and Massa thinks his own native Brazil is fully supportive of that. "The fact that his girlfriend is from Brazil helps him," Massa smiled. "Do people even know this?'' So in my opinion Massa should go to Max and ask for his support! now.I could say that in 2008 Hamilton needs that first title. To quote Felipe Massa who was slower than Alonso , quoting another historic radio broadcast..
51G=World title-Masi Max won by 20 points with out 51G Masi should of Black flagged Lewis but helped him.... Seeya
Ok.And I m saying that Hamilton has no obligations toward Massa who was happy for Max's win in Abu Dhabi with Masi's help..
I'm only saying that I don't believe Verstappen has ever positioned himself to be a 'paragon of fairness'. Or anything like that.
So, will we be seeing only one 7-times WDC in F1 ever and one 6-times champion to be announced soon?
Lool. Never in a million years. Ferrari have themselves to blame for one of the most hilariously botched pit stops in F1 history.
Nope. Never going to happen. You can dream of it tonight though.
He did win it, morally - he just had it stolen from him before the end by corrupt people on the other side of the fence. No dream necessary.
Jean Todt had the power to do that as long as he s been FIA president but he didn't do it .It's easy to speak from the outside....That race was lost in the pit by Ferrari and he was the team principal at Ferrari.
Exactly. Why is ol' Jean speaking up now after all these years instead of doing/saying something much sooner?
Bernie's statements came around mid 2023. Todt wasn't in office anymore... Read at least about the story before commenting.
After being dropped by the Renault team following the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix, Piquet Jr. alleged that he had been asked by the team to deliberately crash to improve the race situation for Alonso, sparking an investigation of Renault F1 for race fixing by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), Formula One's governing body. After an investigation, Renault F1 were charged with conspiracy on 4 September, and were to answer the charge on 21 September 2009. Todt has know that from 2009 when Renault has been punished and he didn't anything....
Once again, you keep commenting without knowing what you are talking about. It is question of, did the officials already know about it in 2008? According to Bernie, they did but kept silence. This changes everything. What happened in 2009 has no much importance in this particular case since, the officials reportedly knew it in 2008 already. Bernie's statements was made this year, your critics to Todt are nonsense.
You basically repeat what I said. The only ones who had the evidence was Bernie and Mosley and they kept silent until Bernie gave what can be considered as an evidence 15 years later. There's two different factors to consider: 1) Has it been proven that the crash gate was real? Yes! But only in 2009, too late to scrap the Singapore GP according to the guidelines. 2) And that's the real issue here: Did both official already know in 2008 that it was manipulated. Only then could the GP be scraped. And in this regard, only since Bernie's statements earlier this year could be considered as an evidence. In this particular case, point 1 doesn't matter at all. What matters is point 2. That's also the reason why Massa only came up this year with this story. According to the guidelines, the officials should have scraped the GP in 2008 already, but didn't, pretending that they only knew about it in 2009.
no, it's not that there was no evidence and it couldn't be proven. Of course it was possible - they just wanted to sweep this matter under the carpet. The drivers, engineers, FIA know much more than we are told. they have all the data about the cars. two issues: 1. irrational strategy - it's not like the team says anything and everyone believes nonsense 2. unusual behavior during an accident - steering wheel turn telemetry two factors that are out of the norm come together and cause a car that hasn't won anything this year to suddenly win. there are no coincidences They didn't want to prove it, and if you don't want to, you won't find any evidence
I miss Kubica. I wish he never raced that rally car. "everyone had guessed it from the very beginning" There's a difference between "guessing" and being able to actually prove it. ? "the FIA was also perfectly aware of it" Apparently, but only after Bernie's statements this year this could eventually be proven. Btw, not only the FIA (Mosley) was aware of it, but also the FOM (Bernie), at least according to Bernie. The difficulty was to have evidence in order to be able to prove it. This evidence only came last year. There's no way Todt had this evidence during his time at the FIA. Therefore there's nothing he could do about this. We could argue if he would have done something if he had the evidence during his FIA time for sure. But that's a different story. ?
It was a quote from your comment... I don't really care what you notice or think about me TBH..
Keep your word and finish this conversation..Your ego couldn't let you , could you?To satisfy your pride you ll alwavs want to have the last conclusion as I have noticed.
You remember this? "Anyway there is no point to continue this conversation !" Nothing to do with flattering. You simply accused the wrong person and you won't admit you did.
Yeah, Yeah.. Don't flatter yourself because that's all you can do.....
I'll tell you this, I'm from Poland - so from Robert Kubica's country. Kubica has spoken about this in the media many times - and remember that Kubica took part in that race. Kubica said that he knew something was wrong already during the race - DURING THE RACE. Alonso's strategy with this amount of fuel was irrational and could only work if SC appeared at a given moment. He was convinced that it was a set up from the very beginning and the truth is that everyone had guessed it from the very beginning You don't have to believe me, I'm telling you what Kubica has been saying from the very beginning on this subject. So if he says so and he already guessed what was happening during the race, the FIA was also perfectly aware of it. Kubica doesn't give many interviews, he doesn't have social media, so I guarantee you that when he says something, you can believe him. He doesn't do anything for the public,
@Cristi Tab No one said Todt is an angel. No need to put words in other people's mouth... Yes, he, like everyone else knew what happened in the 2008 Singapore GP. But again, he couldn't know that Bernie and Mosley knew it already in 2008, and again, underlining 2008. Nobody except Bernie and Mosley knew. There's no point indeed for you to continue this conversation. You should have realized after my first reply that you were wrong. It was your own choice to keep pretending nonsense.
Yeah, yeah.Todt in his innocence when he was elected for the first time as FIA president wasn't so curious to find out what really happened in 2008.Anyway there is no point to continue this conversation !
Again, it is question of did Bernie and Mosley know in 2008, underlining 2008. How is Todt supposed to know this? As far as I know, Todt is not a clairvoyant and never was supposed to be.
FIA oficials punished Symonds and Briatore,.Todt had 2 terms as FIA president and should have known that ...if you want to make me believe that Todt had found out only in 2023 after Bernie said what he said you wouldn't convince me about Todt innocence regarding the fact that he didn't know.
I think that Todt did a lot of wrongs when he was the head of the FIA, but it's good that now he found the courage to call the fra** a fra** and support Massa. I think it will definitely give Massa courage and motivation and maybe help him with his case
