For F1 teams the weather in Japan, on Sunday, is set to throw a spanner in the works. However, with the heat and dry environment at Suzuka, the FIA have also been put to task with two freak fires springing about randomly, disrupting FP2.

Unforeseen as it was, it happened, and not for the first time. Due to the dry and hot climate present now at Suzuka, the conditions were set: two freak fires broke out as the FP2 session was still underway.

FIA takes preemptive measures on freak fires

Since then, however, in an effort to prevent this from happening again, and to be better prepared, should it occur, the FIA has released a statement reassuring competitors and fans alike that the matter is being tackled at the moment.

"While we continue to look into the fires that occurred during FP2, our focus before tomorrow will be on taking preemptive measures. The grass has been cut as short as possible, and loose, dried grass has been removed from affected areas," reads the statement issued by the FIA.

"Prior to tomorrow's sessions, the grass will be dampened, and specific response teams will be stationed around the track," concluded the governing body.
