F1 driver Liam Lawson has reacted to his FP1 and FP2 sessions for the Japanese Grand Prix, back with Racing Bulls after his demotion from Red Bull Racing.
After what was a brutal start to the season for the Kiwi driver failing to make it past Q1 in all of the three qualifying sessions he ran, Lawson is a lot more positive after the frist two sessions of the weekend at Suzuka.
"It was a good day, it’s nice to be back, everyone’s been very very positive. I’ve spent a lot of time with this team, they’re a great bunch of people and it’s nice to feel welcomed back again," said the New Zealander in a Racing Bulls press release.
This being the first full fledged season entry for Lawson, he was still to run in Australia and China prior to his Red Bull Racing two-race stint, leaving Japan as the first track he's ever had any racing experience on.
"Also nice to be driving in Suzuka again, it’s a very cool track, with the resurfacing in sector one it’s even faster now; it just feels like it’s tearing your head off, which is quite exciting," added the New Zealander.
It does feel different, the window that the guys have at the moment is very very good- Liam Lawson on the VCARB02 at Suzuka
After his demotion to Racing Bulls, Lawson is now able to note the differences between Red Bull Racing's RB21 and Racing Bulls' VCARB02.
"All in all, a good day, but obviously tomorrow is the more important one. The car felt good, it does feel different, the window that the guys have at the moment is very very good, the car is pretty fast so far this season so hopefully we can replicate that tomorrow as well."
