The differences between the two top teams are extremely small in Canada. This became clear again after the second free practice. Where
Max Verstappen seemed to have the fastest car by far for a long time,
Ferrari was finally able to come close.
Charles Leclerc eventually came just one-tenth short of matching the Dutchman.
Carlos Sainz was also close to the
Red Bull Racing driver. The midfield also showed that they are close, with
Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and
Pierre Gasly in fourth, fifth and sixth places. The differences between all the drivers show that it could be exciting on Saturday, as long as it stays dry.
Because rain was already a threat on Friday and on Saturday the expectation is again that it could rain in Montreal. On Sunday, however, it will remain dry so the teams are also tuning the car for the race setup. As a result, much of the practice consisted of longer runs, although there was therefore also time for fast runs.
Sergio Perez will be hoping to gain time, as the Mexican came to just the eleventh time in FP2.
