Pierre Gasly and Max Verstappen have rued technical difficulties as the pair spoke about their mixed qualifying sessions in Bahrain as Verstappen qualified P5 and Gasly 13th.
Gasly exited qualifying in Q1 in Melbourne after a tactical error and went on to miss out on a points finish coming in P11 at Albert Park. He qualified in P13 for the Bahrain edition another disappointing performance as his teammate Verstappen held off the midfield to qualify in fifth.
Speaking after qualifying Gasly revealed the rear of the Red Bull car had been causing issues: “The beginning of the weekend we struggled with the rear of the car and we struggled to really get the grip from the rear axle, there is potential but maybe this weekend I didn't take the right direction and we will be hoping to improve it."
Verstappen meanwhile demonstrated the power the new Honda engine had in Melbourne as he finished on the podium at Albert Park but he only qualified fifth for the Bahrain Grand Prix and admitted it wasn’t as ideal as the team the would have hoped.
“Expectations were a bit mixed going in, it was definitely not the most ideal set-up we could have in qualifying.
“We could not switch on the soft tyre all weekend,” added the Dutchman.
