In America, a rare occurance happened last weekend. Three different teams on the podium. Lewis Hamilton relished the battle and has admitted that he wants more of it in the future to make F1 "the best ever".

Hamilton is on the brink of his fifth F1 world title and could have won it last weekend if he had won the race.

Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari did, however and he was closely followed by P2 occupier Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and the Mercedes man could only manage a third place finish in Texas.

Hamilton believes that F1's new regulations for 2021 should make it possible for cars to follow each other closer so that an overtake can be deployed.

"I really enjoyed it," Hamilton told Motorsport. "Kimi rode great, Max drove great. Kimi and I drove wheel-to-wheel for a moment, that was fantastic. We ended up in a train with the three of us.

"I hoped the race would last longer because it was great. But nevertheless it is a fundamental problem in Formula One that you can not follow each other. As a result, there are large gaps between the drivers.

"So I really hope that good decisions are made for 2021. So that you do not have to be one and a half seconds faster to reduce a gap. I hope that will be much less. Because then this will be the best racing class ever."
