Christian Horner has confirmed that there is the possibility of Daniil Kvyat returning to Toro Rosso, just over a year after it seemed the Russian had been dropped indefinitely.
Kvyat’s career seemed to be on the up when he stood on the second step of the podium in Shanghai in 2016, but just three races later, he was lining up for Toro Rosso while Max Verstappen took what was his seat to victory in the Spanish Grand Prix.
It was a shocking switch, and Kvyat’s confidence never returned in F1, scoring only five points before he was unceremoniously dropped from the team.
However, now it looks like the Russian driver could be in line for a sensational return to Toro Rosso.
He is still only 24, and with 72 race starts to his name he has plenty of experience for his age, and with the lack of Red Bull young drivers being eligible for a super licence, Kvyat looks in a good position to get the seat.
“Well there are always rumours at this time of year,” Horner told Sky Sports F1. “Monza being a hotbed of that.
“I think the situation with Toro Rosso is pretty open, so everything is being considered and [Kvyat] is one of several drivers on the list. Absolutely.”
