Daniel Ricciardo has replaced Nyck de Vries in the current Formula 1 season. Red Bull junior Liam Lawson has thus not managed to secure a spot in Formula 1 for the time being. Lawson himself understands well that Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has appointed the Australian to replace the Dutchman.
The New Zealander was touted as one of the candidates to replace the Dutch driver, who did not perform satisfactorily. AlphaTauri opted for a more experienced driver and there was Ricciardo. He may drive the last 12 races of the season on behalf of the Italian racing stable.
"To jump in mid-season would have been extremely tough, and in AlphaTauri’s position, they were wanting someone experienced who has been in Formula 1 for a long time. So I understand their decision," Lawson told Motorsport.com in an interview .
"I always wanted to complete the season here [in Super Formula],” Lawson told. “My goal was to get a seat for next year. " he continued.
That last line is a warning by Lawson: “My goal was to get a seat for next year. "
It would be great for Lawson to get a seat in F1 , will he wait for Redbull or does his contract have an escape clause if another team comes knocking.
It is not a warning. His only chance is AlphaTauri, nothing else. He is not material for other teams going after him. If somebody would be interested in him, he would have accepted it already. RedBull would also be happy to see him get into F1, even if it's not driving for them.
What team outside of RB/AT would you suggest to sign Lawson? Since MB still didn't sign HAM, MB maybe? What do you suggest?
Even by having RIC in one of the AT this season, doesn't mean Lawson will not join AT next year.
Right now there's 3 unknown factors at RB/AT;
1)
How will PER perform for the rest of the season.
2)
Is TSU really that good?
3)
How will RIC perform compared to TSU.
One of those three drivers can be replaced by Lawson for next year. Lots of scenarios are possible in this regard.
@J41L, you seem have suggestions already,in your post. Hence I will refrain from commenting on "rumours".
The possibility of seats becoming available is always on in F1, its normally done when the need arises or in advance, maybe a year in advance.
For Lawson, the first step would be to follow the route DR did, become the 3rd driver for a team and that will open up those opportunities for him.
I think Williams would be an option, I don't think they have settled on LS and neither do they have a settled 3rd driver .
Thanks for your scenarios, they all seem possible but in light of those being possible scenarios, you just never know if a driver would take a certainty over a possibility ?
You're confusing "rumours" with questions.
"Thanks for your scenarios"
I didn't give any scenario.
I said lots of scenarios are possible, but those depend on 3 factors.
"The possibility of seats becoming available is always on in F1"
This also depends on various factors. Existing contracts, partner teams vs "enemy teams", Sponsors, etc.
Considering potentially free spots for next year, If I'm not mistaken, and by assuming HAM will finally end up signing, AT is the only team with a possible free spot without having to break any contract. But not sure about that.
Maybe you will be able to supply more information in this regard? ChatGPT maybe has the answer.
It will be much appreciated ?
I have never said otherwise wise. The contract is signed, the announcement will be made at the right time. Thats the rumours coming from my friends in the paddock.
The media frenzy is about the detials and thats all, have some patients.
@J41L, thanks for the great discussion.
Glad you have been enjoying ?
I told you already Vegan.
Your old and obsolete "twist-technique" has since long been looked through to the tiniest nuance.
You can play this game for as long as you like, and even if you don't want to admit it, it just doesn't work anymore. ?
Ok Vegan so please confirm, Lewis's contract is not a done deal, as you previously stated.
I'm a bit confused now!
@J41L,well as I understand it, a question seeks information or clarification, while a rumor is an unverified piece of information or speculation.
Yip you do speculate, thats fine to do, and we can speculate that Lawson might be tempted to sign for a team that guarantees him a F1 seat in 2 seasons.
Yes you rightly point out the vaires factors that influence the possibilities of a available seat for a talented driver like Lawson.
You rightly mention Lewis, untillnits official, that seat is available.
