Lewis Hamilton partly owns the NFL team Denver Broncos along with the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group. The Mercedes driver made this deal in 2022 and has already completed his first season as a part-time owner.
Hamilton formed part of the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group takeover in August 2022. They purchased the team for a record $4.65 billion. Ahead of the 2022 United States Grand Prix in Texas, Hamilton attended his first Broncos match as a part-time owner. Unfortunately for Hamilton, the team lost 19-16 to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Broncos finished the 2022 season with a 5-12 record, equalling a franchise record for the number of losses in a single season. It was also a season with a high injury list. The team have made coaching changes for the 2023 season as they look to return to their form in 2015 when they won the Super Bowl.
In a conversation on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Hamilton said it was an "honour and such an amazing opportunity". He went on to explain his own history relating to the NFL.
"I remember when I was like nine years old, I used to live on an American air base for a short period of time in the UK, and that was the first time I became aware of it [NFL], and I used to play [video game] Madden. I've been to many Super Bowls. I've been to the first game in the UK."
