Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher both had a tough weekend in Bahrain. While
Yuki Tsunoda managed to score points in his first
Formula 1 race, the Haas drivers both went into a spin. However, this is not comparable according to
Marc Surer.
In 2021 we have three rookies in
Formula 1. At Haas two have joined at the same time. Schumacher and Mazepin have driven their first race in a Formula 1 car, but it has proven more difficult than expected. Mazepin crashed out of the race after only three corners and even Schumacher had a hard time staying on track.
Problems at Haas
''When a lot of power comes in and the tyres are still a bit cold, you can just spin when you hit the kerb. That's just too much power for the rear. You have to accelerate calmly. These are details that young drivers still need to learn,'' Marc Surer said to
Formel1.de.
The comparison with Tsunoda doesn't hold water, however. ''Tsunoda has a much better car. Haas have a bad car. That was the case last year and it hasn't improved, even though they have more power. Dealing with such a bad car puts those drivers in trouble'', concluded the former F1 driver.
