McLaren plans two-day test with Piastri and Norris

McLaren's season has not been great, to say the least. While the team did pick up its first points of the season thanks to Lando Norris in Melbourne, a place in the upper midfield - the team's minimum target - currently seems far out of sight. McLaren is therefore doing everything it can to turn the tide.

The British team already hinted that a B-spec might appear on track in Baku (the next Grand Prix). In any case, improvements to the car are hard at work at the factory in Woking. For that, James Key is no longer responsible. The technical director was recently pushed aside and replaced by a number of people. One of them, David Sanchez, comes over from Ferrari and cannot start his work before 1 January 2024.

Test with old McLaren

McLaren will also do a test in the meantime. The team has hired off the Imola circuit for Wednesday and Thursday, to let Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris drive a two-year-old car. It is not possible to do a test with the current car, but no doubt things can be tried out.

On 21 May, the Grand Prix in Imola is on the calendar. For Oscar Piastri, then, it is also an ideal way to drive a Formula 1 car around the circuit near Bologna for the first time.
