With his third place in Monaco,
Lando Norris achieved his second podium finish in 2021. The promising
McLaren driver had to fight hard for this P3, and he revealed that he felt the pressure throughout the race.
Speaking to
Motorsport.com Norris explained that it was mainly the early violations of track limits that increased the pressure on him for the rest of the race. Early on, Norris received a warning for this, so another violation would likely have earned him a time penalty.
"By about lap seven I had used both my opportunities to go off the track which I'm sure made my engineer Will extremely nervous", Norris said.
Pressure from Perez
The Briton continued: "I'm sure it made certain other people very nervous too. So not an ideal start to the race, especially because I knew there were many more laps to go and the final stint, when you can be pushing more."
The driver was pursued for a long time by Perez, who was coveting a mistake or time penalty from the
McLaren to take over P3.
"If I made one more mistake and went off I would have a five-second penalty and [Sergio] Perez would be ahead of me", Norris concluded.
