Lando Norris has admitted that a debut in Formula One in 2019 might not be on the cards at the moment but that hasn't stopped him from focusing on a future with the McLaren team. The F2 racer admitted that with Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne currently at the team, it may be difficult for him to find a race seat.

Speaking to Autosport about his future and possible career with McLaren in F1, Norris admitted that while of course he would like to stay with McLaren, a drive with another F1 team isn't out of the question.

"Of course I can see it.

"I would like to see it that I can just be in F1, but I don't think that's necessarily the way to go.

"Ideally I'll be with McLaren next year, that's the perfect situation.

"But it's not up to me to decide, it's up to the bosses, and Fernando (Alonso), and whoever makes all the decisions."

McLaren are yet to confirm their driver line-up for 2019 and have admitted that they are looking at several options both inside and outside of the team. Norris also commented on the craziness of the Formula One rumour mill and how he may be limited to practice run outs next season as he prepares for a full time drive.

"It's difficult to say, especially with us being in the situation of nobody really knowing what Fernando wants to do next year.

"Obviously, it would be very nice to be in F1.

"But at the same time, staying with McLaren, maybe it's better to say I want to be doing FP1s and more opportunities to drive in F1.

"So if there is a confirmation of a season in 2020, maybe that's a better opportunity and a better situation to be in."
