Sergio Perez believes his long pit-stop ruined his chances of points in Monaco. The Force India driver finished 12th after qualifying in 9th. His team-mate, Ocon, finished 6th. The fastest outside the top 3 teams.
Perez entered the pits on lap 21, but his pit-crew struggled to change his right-rear tyre costing him valuable time. He returned to the track stuck in traffic making his problems even worse.
“I am disappointed because we didn’t get the result our pace deserved,” Perez said.
“We had a problem at the pit stop and this completely ruined our race. Our first stint was strong, we looked after the tyres well and pushed hard just before the stop.”
The limitations of the Monaco circuit proceeded to play their part in Perez’s second stint of the afternoon. The Mexican believes he’d have finished much higher up had he been able to overtake.
“I was quicker than the cars in front, but you need a big advantage to be able to pass around here, especially with these very wide cars.”
