George Russell has completed his first season with Mercedes. The talented Briton immediately managed to finish higher in the world championship than Lewis Hamilton who did not get beyond sixth position. Speaking to Crash.net Russell stressed having an excellent rapport with his teammate.

When Mercedes announced Russell's switch to Mercedes, expectations were that he would be no match for Hamilton in his first season. Nothing was further from the truth, however, as the seven-time world champion had to work hard to match Russell's performance. Moreover, Russell managed to take the only Mercedes victory of the year in Brazil.

Russell happy with collaboration Hamilton

However, it did not cause friction in Toto Wolff's team. Hamilton and Russell continued to help each other behind the scenes, ensuring that Mercedes could be reasonably happy in the closing stages of the season. According to Russell, however, the situation was different than expected.

"If you are fighting for one-twos there will be a slightly different dynamic and that’s only natural," he revealed. "But I think the thing we have going for us is the fact that we are at very different stages of our career. It kind of feels like we are in this together, really."

"We’ve got no reason to have conflict. We have got a good relationship. We need to give each other respect, and I think we gave each other respect in Mexico, as an example. We recognise the importance of that within the whole team. If our relationship starts to break up, it’s going to have an impact on the team and ultimately it’s going to go full circle and affect us as well."

Uh huh...we'll see if you're singing the same tune if and when you guys are actually competing for wins, as you acknowledged...Lewis like all great drivers is insanely competitive.

The problem with Hamilton is by winning so many races and championships, most of them between 2014 and 2021, he actually has in his own mind that he is really super talented and that the results have been because of his own skills. He hasn't considered that he has an 'unfair advantage' over the field because his car was so much faster and more superior than every other competitor, plus the fact that his team purposely gave him a second rate team mate who offered absolutely no challenge at all, so all his results obtained in the last 8 years was in fact expected. He thus does not accept the fact that there are better drivers on the grid presently, such as Max or Charles or George and probably a couple of others as well, and in his mind, he thinks he is still superior in talents to them and they therefore have to 'give way' to him during wheel to wheel battles. Wonder how long it will take for reality to kick in till he accepts the fact that he is probably about P5-P7 in the current F1 field .... which is perfectly where he finished the year, in P6 in the drivers championship.

Absolutely well stated ?

I think it will never kick in.I compare his ego with that of Putin. everybody in his surrounding has given him so much credit, everything becomes normal. that will not change. check out on YouTube for instance, the characteristics of narcissistic people. compare that with Lewis behaviour.

So you are implying that two individuals from different parts of the planet and completely different ethic background are displaying similar behaviour? ~sarcasm~ What a coincidence! ?

The most successful driver in the history of F1 and he's only a P5-P7. What have you been taking?? Do you actually watch F1?? Some people just love to skew facts to fit their narrative. He believes he is the best driver because he has won the WDC 7 times!!! That's 7 times!!! Also WITH DIFFERENT TEAMS!!! He should have won it in his rookie season and last year as well!!! It's such an average driver that in his first season he missed out on winning the WDC by 1 point because he was fighting a 2 time WDC in his prime, who he beat btw. That one season alone showed the world what a talent he is. And he has come back season after season. Do you realise there is only one season where he hasn't won a race!!! One season!!! The stats this guy has is on another level to everyone else on the grid. For me he is the goat so this nonsense about being a p5-p7 driver is ridiculous. The goat argument is an opinion but what isn't an argument is that there isn't any discussion about who the goat is without it involving SLH. One last thing, when people go on about the car, it was the car, it was an unfair advantage, he was in a rocket ship. He was in a car he helped develop. Its a team game and the team won 8 times!!! MV nor anyone else has won the WDC without having the fastest car over the course of a season!! People have won races in a slower car but never the WDC. So I could say that MV only won last year because of MM as well as having the fastest car and he only won this year because he had the fastest car and both statements would be true. What they wouldn't do is tell the true story of how brilliant MV drove this year and at times last year. How brilliant the RBR team were at making the right call at the right time and how the developed the car over the course of this season. I don't like MV, CH but I can respect what they have achieved. Other people need to do the same.. P.S GR future WDC!!!!!

Lets just be real here now!........Max in Mercedes and Max in Red-Bull will be the better driver than Lewis!!...Lewis will be No2 in both teams!! Love F1 racing!!

Corey 02 December 2022 at 16:05+ 520

@kzik I was trying to be diplomatic but the reality is MV gets beat by SLH 9 times out of 10 if they are in the same team. That would be just an opinion though. We will never know as they will never be in the same team and they both require different types of car to get the most out of their driving ability. If a car is developed toward either driver then they would get the upper hand. But then again we have no idea how SLH would adapt to an AN car, better than MV in a merc?? In my opinion he does but who cars about my opinion haha
