Carlos Sainz Junior has said that his team Renault got their tactics all wrong for the entire race, as the Spaniard finished in a disappointing tenth place.
The Spaniard was critical of the team's decision to switch to ultra softs early-on in the race, after just fifteen laps.
"The race went terribly from the start," he told Movistar.
"It wasn't a good decision to come in at lap fifteen for ultra softs.
"Whether I expected the tyres to wear down so quickly?
"I did, but the rest apparently didn't."
Sainz drove in eighth but drifted backwards, as he had to let his teammate Nico Hulkenberg past. Things got even worse when Max Verstappen overtook him, but Sainz wasn't bothered by the latter overtake.
"Max was so much quicker than me," he admitted.
"The race was over because of the degradation of the ultra softs.
"The priority was with the team however, and with the points - we scored more than McLaren."
That is true. McLaren didn't score any points in the principality because Alonso retired and Vandoorne didn't even get close to the points.
