After two Grands Prix have been completed in 2025,
Max Verstappen is still at the top in terms of how many penalty points drivers have at the moment in
F1. There was previously a tie, but the Dutchman's points will not expire until later in the season. That number still remains at eight.
Verstappen must continue to watch out for penalties
Until the
Chinese Grand Prix,
Fernando Alonso had just as many points as
Max Verstappen. The limit stands at 12 points, after that, a race ban follows, and being so close to that, two incidents can lead to Verstappen missing a weekend. Alonso can be now a bit more relieved, as three of his penalty points expired on 24 March.
Verstappen has to wait until 30 June to return to having only six points in this regard. The next time more points will come off his license will be on 27 October, and the remaining three expire after the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
In Shanghai, one of the rookies managed to get on the board. During the Sprint, Alpine driver, Jack Doohan, got himself two points for an infringement. In the Grand Prix he got another two points together with a 10-second time penalty for his collision with Gabriel Bortoleto.
Penalty points per driver in F1
Max Verstappen - 8 points
Fernando Alonso - 5 points
Jack Doohan – 4 points
Oliver Bearman - 2 points
Alex Albon - 2 points
Andrea Kimi Antonelli - 0 points
Gabriel Bortoleto - 0 points
