Statement | Verstappen missed opportunity by not giving Perez a new engine
Sergio Perez failed to advance past Q2 in qualifying for this weekend's Qatar Grand Prix. The Mexican had to start from P11 but eventually finished fourth in the race. Should Red Bull have let Perez have a new engine to test how much extra speed it provides?
Perez missed out on the podium with the two-stop lead, as Red Bull didn't want to take any chances after multiple blowouts during the race. In the end, however, the team took a lot of points from Mercedes, as Valtteri Bottas crashed out after a puncture.
The result in Qatar means Red Bull are now just five points behind the German team in the Constructors' Championship. However, there is still the question of whether the team should have installed a new engine in Perez's Red Bull, although this might have reduced the team's points lead in the Constructors' Championship.
New engine Hamilton very fast
In Brazil, Lewis Hamilton picked up a new combustion engine, which is clearly a lot faster than his old one. Max Verstappen, therefore, didn't stand a chance in the race. At the Qatar Grand Prix, the Briton drove with his old engine again, but again he was too fast for Verstappen. It raises the question of whether Red Bull should not have tested with Perez how much horsepower a new engine produces. This could help the Dutchman in the last two races because he needs to win at least one more race to take the world title.

As so often, the headlines are misleading again. Verstappen does not give Perez a new a engine. So that is not why he missed or did not miss a chance.
Apart from that, even a sparkling new Honda engine will be beaten by the rocket engine on the next track. Too many straights there. And there is where Lewis is going to employ it. Then in the next race, that is where it all comes down to. And I do net believe the engine power difference is going to be the decisive factor there. Down force, driving skills and tactics will be.

Red Bull should have taken a new engine in the last GP for Perez and a new engine for MAX for the last 2 raced, a ICE is enough, no need for a full power unit.
Red bull already tried to protest against the Mercedes engine and failed. The manufacturers can only change engine components with the others agreement. I can't see how they can have a superior new design engine. They have turned the engine up to max plus knowing how many races it needs to do (3 as to 7). Now it's in red bull's head toto is going along with calling the engine 'rocket engine or spicy engine' to get into their heads for some kind games.
Honda engines dont degrade like mercs, so there is little advantage. He wouldn't battle the rocketship anyway
Max didn t lose anything... just one 2 nd place and a dnf for lulu and he is champion... just like Silverstone/ Hungary but in the other direction.. Max was superior and he needs to win this.. the fraud needs to start modelling earlier.
Max is cracking under pressure, too.many mistakes this season.

Name 3 mistakes Max made, I can’t remember any.
Running himself and Lewis off the track in Brazil. expecting Lewis to move for him and was carrying too much speed on the corner and drove his car on top of Lewis' car. He's made mistakes. His biggest mistake was thinking he could beat the 7-time World Champ with a Honda. lol
Bahrain as he went around the outside of Hamilton at Turn 4 in the closing stages. He had the move done until a kick of oversteer put him off the track, meaning he had to give the position back.
Yellow flags , touching rear wings , Monaco, Silverstone.
Max should have won the championship by now mate, too many mistakes.
For Lewis:
- Imola: 2 mistakes. First, braking and sliding off track into gravel and second, accelerating forward and hitting wall (was only saved in the end because of red flag when Russell wiped out Bottas)
- Baku: braking and sliding off track upon restart when Max's tire blew...he had at least 2nd place locked up...resulted in no points
- Hitting pit wall in Russia
- Hungary only one on grid with intermediates (joint mistake by team and Hamilton...Hamilton could've over-ridden his team)...instead of winning the race, he finished third and dropped easy 10 points
- Poor start at Monza Sprint Race (went from 2nd to 6th...he had a legitimate shot at winning the sprint race...which would've put him on pole for the race...during the race, the car which jumped in the lead won the race
Come on. Lewis makes more mistakes. Max touched a wing ? Had it not been for VB running into him and a blow up (was it a tyre? I forget) it'd be all over. Remember Lewis running himself off the road when Max was already out? That's the worst error of the season.

Touching rear wing - big deal, pocket change fine
Monaco? - he won the race
Silverstone - He won the sprint race, and was in a legitimate battle to win the main race if it wasn't for the crash

One can be tweaked to increase turbo & combustion pressure for a fewer race life span and the other is limited in its application. Yeh Honda is superior bucko!
Then maybe they need a better driver. You are saying the guy with the best engine is losing now? Must be the DRIVER! BTW Merc invented the combustible engine. I think they know a thing or two about engines. The Japanese are better at electronics but the Germans own superior engines. Bar none!

LOL - I drive a Merc. Honda does NOT have the best engines. You are dreaming. I never met a Honda I couldn't pass. Their drivers think they are faster than they actually are. Just like Max is leaning his Honda is no match for the Merc. lol lol Dream on!

If they aren't 100% sure that it wouldn't increase performance, then i don't know any reason why not to test it.
Thats was a missed opportunity, take the 5 grid penalty and you have Pérez in the mix for the last 2 races.
