As the first week of the summer break comes to a close, Toto Wolff has commented on his friend
Niki Lauda. The Mercedes advisor missed the German and Hungarian Grands Prix due to ill health and earlier this week he underwent a lung transplant.
Lauda is reportedly recovering well, but it's more serious than expected. Wolff went on the Mercedes to put some words about his friend.
"Although we should enjoy the start of our summer holidays this evening, none of us at Mercedes should pretend that we feel happy - our thoughts are rather with Niki, Birgit and the Lauda family," Wolff said.
"The world knows Niki as an F1 legend with incredible power and resilience. For all of us at Mercedes, he is our chairman, our mentor and our friend. We have missed him by our side in Hockenheim and Hungary, and can't wait to have him back with us.
"The recovery he faces is not a race. But I'm sure he will soon be telling every nurse and doctor that he has had enough of the hospital. We wish him a safe and speedy recovery - in that order - and send all our positive energy to him and his family. I miss you, my friend."
Some very supportive words from Toto Wolff. Current rivals Ferrari also took to Twitter to wish Lauda all the best.
His current health issues are reportedly not a direct result of his 1976 horror crash. From all of us here at GPBlog, we wish Niki Lauda the best of recoveries.
