Max Verstappen admitted that his father being “tough” on him in his upbringing has helped him deal with Red Bull boss Helmut Marko.
Verstappen followed the footsteps of his father Jos Verstappen, who achieved two podiums over ten years, in racing in Formula 1.
His father taught him everything and the Dutchman admitted that the Red Bull boss was as tough as his father.
“All my life I worked together with my dad, and he is very tough too. Ultimately, that’s a good thing. It brought me to F1, of course with the support of Red Bull and Helmut,” Verstappen said (planetf1.com).
Verstappen recovered from a difficult start to the season to finish with two wins in Austria and Mexico as well as finishing the second half of the season second to Lewis Hamilton on points.
“You have to stay critical and that was necessary after those weekends in China and Monaco. We talked about it. These things can’t happen but sometimes you need to go through it to become stronger.”
He admitted the highlight of the year was his win in Austria in front of many Dutch fans.
“It was amazing, especially with so many Dutch fans there.”
“It was awesome to win with a Red Bull Racing car at the Red Bull Ring. It was unbelievable. I didn’t expect it the night before the race. The race panned out a bit like the 2016 one, only this time it was for the win.”
