Claire
Williams has played down rumours of a possible engine provider switch for
Williams and praised current supplier
Mercedes for their work. It had been rumoured that
Renault would be an alternative for the bottom-placed constructor.
Williams have had a torrid season, failing to score a single point this season and have been far slower than the rest of the field. Their driver pair of
Robert Kubica and
George Russell brought some fresh hope but their car is clearly a level below the rest of the competition.
Last week a new saga in the Williams season began as they were rumoured to be contemplating a switch to a
Renault power unit. However,
Claire Williams has come out and emphatically shut down that possibility.
"I have read the messages, but we are not talking to Renault," Williams said as quoted by
GPToday.net.
Williams also had some words of praise for their current supplier Mercedes, adding:
"Mercedes is a fantastic partner for us and everyone knows that Toto Wolff started his career in Formula 1 at Williams. Our relationship with him is therefore excellent and I would like to maintain that relationship."Follow GPblog now on Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook!
