According to the French
Formula 1 channel
Canal+ the contract between
Nyck de Vries and AlphaTauri has already been signed. The Dutchman will drive for
Red Bull Racing's junior team in 2023, according to the medium. This clears the way for
Pierre Gasly to make the switch to Alpine.
Rumours have been circulating for some time that De Vries would have attracted the interest of
Helmut Marko and AlphaTauri after his impressive performance at the
Italian Grand Prix. The Red Bull advisor first tried to bring IndyCar driver Colton Herta to the team, but that story fell through due to too few points on his super licence.
De Vries made a good impression in F1 after scoring two points for
Williams in Italy. The Dutchman filled in for
Alexander Albon, who was unable to take part in the race due to appendicitis. Not only Williams is said to be interested in De Vries, but also AlphaTauri. The Dutchman himself already admitted to having had talks with Marko.
Deal complete between De Vries and AlphaTauri?
So, according to Canal+, the deal is already done. The French medium is often well informed about contracts at French teams such as Alpine. So it now seems only a matter of time before De Vries is announced as
Yuki Tsunoda's new teammate.
