Jenson Button expects Mercedes to compete for the world title again next season. Should Ferrari and Red Bull Racing both also deliver a good car, it would mean that as many as three teams will fight for the lead in the world championship.
The former Formula One driver tells Any Driven Monday on Sky Sports that he enjoyed the battle between Mercedes and Red Bull in 2021. Both teams kept little from each other and continued outside Grands Prix to try to unbalance each other.
"We love the teams fighting as well as the drivers," Button stated, pointing to Christian Horner and Toto Wolff. The team bosses of both teams were at odds with each other on several occasions. "I loved that fight between Toto [Wolff] and Christian [Horner] off-track as well as the action on-track."
According to Button, it would be great for the motorsport class if Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes are equally strong in 2023. Indeed, it has been 12 years since the last time more than two teams were strong enough to put up a fight.
"The last time we had three teams was back in 2010, where it was McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull all fighting for the world championship. Bring it on. I think we'll have an epic season next year," Button added.
If Mercedes can come to the party and come up with a championship contending car, then it will be great to see the top 3 drivers in the field, namely Max. Charles and George, fighting it out in close wheel to wheel battles in 3 different team cars and giving all us fans trilling races.
We have seen these 3 race hard without hitting each other or bitching over the radio regarding the other driver, so we will be in for an exciting season.
Hear hear. Time for Lewiston join Seb. Would also love to see Lando in a competitive car.
I would prefer to see RB, Fer and Mcl in the fight for the championship, and MB to struggle for a few more years.

Toto and fia will do anything so merc can be in the fight .merc should stop using fia for what they want all the time merc are a joke
I think Red Bull have 0.3 in a new floor that was not introduced in 2022 and will be on the 2023 version. Beyond that, Adrian surely has some more left in the CFD models they can introduce.
Until the FIA meddles some more at merc's behest the red and silver cars are left fighting for first loser.
I expect Merc to be much more competitive, how much, depends on what improvements RB and to a lesser degree Ferrari will make.
Whilst I believe they will retain the zero pods, they need to change their suspension and floor, especially in the way these components interacts with each other.
Curious to see how they will deal with the ban on the front wing end plates they used in 2022,that created more of a outwash than the FIA intended.
On a side note.
Was reading a article on how cars sizes has changed over the years.Had a scale reference using Ferrari's throughout the years.,....what I wouldn't give for 2007 sized cars back in the sport. The current designs, thou sleek, are just behemoths compared to those.
It's like Hot Wheels vs Micro Machines.
Let’s hope so. But please without the political BS and mud throwing we have seen Merc and especially Toto pull in season 2020/2021. It was a bloody disgrace for the sport.
