Gasly on the phone with Vettel for a long time: ''He always gives good advice''

Pierre Gasly did not have much time to enjoy his victory. The Tuscan Grand Prix is just around the corner, but the Frenchman has had little sleep between his victory and the new race weekend.

Gasly begins to contain it

''Slowly but surely I am starting to realise what I have achieved. This is completely crazy, of course. Since I crossed the line I have hardly had time to land it. I hope to get some sleep tonight, but I'll keep everything together for Sunday. After that Grand Prix I will sleep well I think'', says Gasly opposite the French L'Equipe.

Gasly has had a tough period after his relegation at Red Bull Racing and the loss of his good friend Anthoine Hubert. The fact that he is now so much in the spotlight of all sorts of greats is new to Gasly. Football players like Mbappé, Neymar and Giroud already sent him a message, but the contact with Sebastian Vettel is also special.

Congratulations from Vettel and Hamilton

''I have a long talk with Vettel and he is just a driver for whom I have a lot of respect. He is perhaps the smartest of us all. I also asked him for advice last year with my problems at Red Bull and that's always good advice. Now it was just a conversation in which he was happy for me and congratulated me''.

Gasly is the successor to Vettel, who last won for Toro Rosso in 2008. ''He said I deserved the victory. If a four-time world champion says that to you, that's special. Especially when Lewis Hamilton does the same. But I have to get back to work, because I have a race next Sunday'', concludes the driver of AlphaTauri.

There’s been quite some saltyness going on online (and particularly in this forum) about how lucky the victory was and that “it would never happen again if we replayed the race a thousand times!”...

But I say: be that as it may - it is an AWESOME story! F*ck yeah! These kinds of things are why we watch F1, aren’t they?

Not the ‘seeing Lewis (no disrespect, he IS damn good!!) making the same four moves (none) and stating the same four things (none) in the post race interview afterwards’-weekends over and OVER again...

Good on you Pierre! You were there when the moment presented itself - in contrast to Stroll, for instance, who should have had the better car and HAD the better tyres... Or the heroic Carlos, who knew 20 laps before the end how damn close it was gonna get and that Kimi might cost him the win...!

Credit where credit is due - bravo Pierre Gasly and Alpha Tauri. No discussion there!
