According to the Daily Mail Lewis Hamilton has played a crucial role in Mercedes announcing on Thursday that the protest will be withdrawn. Indeed, Mercedes' lawyer would expect a good final result.
After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix there was a lot of controversy. Max Verstappen had won the GP and with that the world title, but something had gone wrong. Mercedes went to the stewards and took a lawyer with them. That lawyer also advised to protest after the first protests were rejected.
Mercedes has until Thursday evening to present a new protest with evidence, but according to the British media it won't go that far. Hamilton is reported to have told Mercedes, according to the Daily Mail, that he does not want to win an eighth world title on the court. In doing so, the Briton would have played a crucial role in stopping the protest.
Mercedes is now of the opinion that it is better for Formula 1 if they leave it at that, although this is against the advice of their lawyer, Paul Harris, who is convinced that a good case can be made. Mercedes is said to have already informed the FIA, who in turn will launch an investigation in order to avoid this kind of situation in the future.
It must truly hurt the MV fans to know that their boy couldn't keep up let alone "win" it on the track without outside interference and rule bending. The fact that they claim MV to be a champ is sad. A champ wins because he's the best... Not because someone throws the rule book out to assist the win. Oh well I guess in 50 years people taking about the 7 or ( maybe 8 or 9 time ) world champion with the most wins and most poles and longest dominating era over two teams may be able to pronounce MVs name when talking about the most farcical event in the history of F1.
All I am waiting to see is when mad Max aggressive driving puts another driver in the hospital or worse.
So after tonights party in France we can go back to normal and start fresh next year in March.
Guys guys leave the hate and the bad losers speeches and feelings and enjoy the rest of December!! Merry Christmas everyone
That is why Hamilton is the GOAT of F1 drivers. Period. End of story !!!
For sure he looks like a goat but then I’m talking about the animal ofcourse ???
I am a Max fan and have no problem acknowledging that Hamilton is one of the best ever. But GOAT is a big claim, because how do you compare Fangio, Brabham, Stewart, Lauda, Prost, Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton. Hamilton would never have become world champion in the car(s) of Fangio, and Fangio never in the cars of this age.
It's the Daily mail they are not not for their credible reporting but it does'nt surprise me, from the moment the checkered flag was out Hamilton responded professionally where Wolf was an embarrassment for a brand like Mercedes.
And like so many things if Mercedes really felt '''robbed'' and stuff they should have protested before when it either benefitted or didn't affect them.
I mean while this decision was new, the whole process is not new, and Mercedes allowed themselves to be in a fight on who gets more benefits from the rules instead off going to all other teams(not just they exert control on because they supply their engines) and Masi to create better rules, now next year the direct line with Masi is removed and given how childish they responded, going into next year this approach is much harder if not impossible. So that's a loss for everyone on the grid. And to be clear i include Red bull in this criticism With opening an direct line i think Masi was trying to create such kind of cooperation, but it failed unfortnually.
Lewis showed he is more mature than his team leadership, i would'nt surprise me if indeed under his lead the appeal was cancelled.
A comment on the side, don’t you guys think that id name “flatout “ is the synonym for “max”?? You can’t gain maximum speed if you’re not go flat out….
Sir Lewis Hamilton.
We too salute you sir.
#Lord Hamilton of Stevenage(Monaco). :-)
Hamilton and Verstappen are true champions.
Yes they both push the limit and sometimes go over it, yes they have been assholes on the track, yes their teams do the same, yes luck is a factor, yes both do make mistakes..but all of that is what makes a champion.
Lewis Hamilton also is a legend, because of his wins, but also because of things like this. Verstappen has everything in him to also become a legend, but we have to wait and see.
Fans ..I mean ' fans', like some of the ones we see here and elsewhere trolling, insulting, trying to deny the facts, sadly devalue what those they say they support accomplished. Luckily only a little bit though, mainly they show what sad, useless fanboys they are.
Get a life!
Class from Sir Lewis Hamilton!!
Max drove a great season hands down, but Abu Dhabi has made it a sour victory. There will always be reference to how he won his first title. Now he has to push for an uncontroversial title. Hopefully it comes for him.
The real champ has made the right call to stop the team from protesting!! It's on next season!
Yup..definitely a good gesture by the G.O.A.T and truly legend
let the paper champ have it. Infact the whole world saw what maFIA and redbully has done to F1 hahaha
The only reason LH is now trying to be gracious in defeat is LH and Merc are worried they lose the appeal as well. Nice publicity stint
Nope. That's a figment for your disturbed imagination. You know your people cheated
Any fan trying to blame the other side is in my books pathetic.
There are mechanisms in place to protest these things for a reason.
Let them play out without influence.
People saying it bringing the sports name into disrepute by protesting?
The sport has been doing thst to itself all year long and both fans can agree on that.
Why have mechanisms to protest and a whole governing body based around thay if teams shouldn't make use of it?
Maybe we should do away with any form of protest and just let let FIA run things without being questioned?
Is this how people want the sport to be handled?
Sussie Wolff: ''The decision of one person within the governing body who applied a rule in a way which has never been done before in F1 single handedly decided the F1 Driver World Championship. Rules are rules, they can’t be changed on a whim by one individual at the end of a race.''
Everyone knows that Max Verstappen is a Fake Netflix Champ. Shame. It may sound like name calling but it's really a fact...
Red Boll (ocks) are adapting Snaggletooths car for 2022.
.........so Snaggletooth can still operate the pedals whilst wearing his tag. LOL #WWf1communitydisservice.
I am glad they dropped the protest F1 is turning into a farce, but it gives the pen pushers and bigots on here something to do.
Sir Lewis is a class act sportsman. Unlike his rival this season.
You fake champ lovers have him to thank now so get on your knees.
Getting on your knees is more a thing for Lewis himself and for his fanboys like you. I never see Max do it and he never will neither does his fans.
????
WW (f1) FIA + Masi + Liberty (Merd) Media have now fixed it so old Snaggletooth flatlander (liner), is the North Korean stylie winner.
Netflix are grateful to them, - The Kings New Clothes, has gone all Pete Tong!!! LOL, #Pile of Pish
Class act Hamilton. You already knew the WDC was not lost in Abu Dhabi and therefore Max is the rightful champion.
May we battle on next year
Lu Lu locked up in Baku, would have won in Imola if he didn't hit the wall (lucky boy not to go a lap down), ran 7th in Monaco while his teammate ran 2nd, lined up on the grid by himself in Hungary, smashed his floor in Austria, terrible start in the Monza sprint race, plus all those times that Max clowned Lu Lu on the first lap by overtaking him.
Hams only has himself to blame for not winning the championship. The final 5 laps of Abu Dhabi had little to do with it.
BS?. Let them pursue this case and see where it goes.
This is all about "how to bring a fr-au-dster back in to the spotlight, even though he was humiliated by an excellent driver in the second best car".
Humiliated? You mean max was humiliated by losing by 10+ seconds in 4 consecutive races?
Engine was powering him to the victories from Brazil. Even a little kid can put his foot on the accelerator and drive away with that kind of power advantage.
We all saw the never ending mistakes and whining from a certain someone when cars were equal.
You remember the outcome at Spa this year when rain leveled the playing field in quali?
Indeed. Or he would have just asked to retire the car like in the rainrace of Germany in 2019...
Pit crew of Merc nowadays first looks to Max' decisions when to change to inters in the wet. How humiliating this must be for the previous Paper Champ to see his own opinion either not present or simply bypassed by his own team in decision making under difficult conditions.
Ohh yes. Had Masi allowed them to race there, the certain someone would have been humiliated at Spa too. He probably would have DNFed there on his own, like he parked it in the gravel on the damp track at Imola.
Imola: > 22 s
Monaco: > 40s
Austria: > 35 s
Styrian: >1 minute
Netherlands: > 20s
Mexico: > 16s
So? That must have hurt seriously then. Get over it ;-)
No, those were well deserved in a superior car until Merc were able to improve their car, mainly from Brazil. What is hurting though is Masi's interference on the last lap of the season
Suddenly changing to Masi after getting whipped with these times. Come on.
Masi was not cool, but Max deserved the title.
I think USA's 1.3s gap hurt the most. That was Merc's win and I think the championship.
Respect. May you battle with Max next season again. I don't give a damn about other teams. This Merc vs Red Bull rivalry is so fun. Total opposites when it comes to approach.
Merc vs Ferrari/McLaren/Alpine feels... nothing...
Although it isn't the best mindset it is better that toto's mindset by only allowing Mercedes to race.
you missed the point. It's no fun if you let LH44 battle against... Ocon... I mean c'mon... LH44 vs Norris? Only the Brits would enjoy that. LH44 vs. Leclerc may have a chance but, LH44 will eat Leclerc for breakfast.
LH44 against Alonso would be nice but old hostility is just boring. Same story Mclaren days recived blah blah. We already had that. And it had its day.

No if you look at the standings, the fact that they(being race control fia) don't want to end the season final behind a safety car it was the best of the worser options, it would have been a other story if Mercedes, Red Bull Ferrari and Mclaren where equal in points.
So Mercedes cancelled it's protest because it was pointless, demanding an result as if cars finished under the saferty car is not going to happen, that would mean Mercedes gets to decide racing directors choices, so the only outcome could be either an acknowledgment that the racing director has the option to overrule certain parts of the sporting regulations, in this case only letting a few backbenchers pass the saferty car and getting the saferty car in earlier so there was one lap to race left.
OR
They could have said the rules do not allow the racing director to make that decision, which would not change results now but would change the actions if a similar situation would happen in the future.
The other option was finishing under a safety car, it was to late to let all lapped cars trough and it was to late to red flag
Having said that, if they acted faster it there would have been time for a normal saferty car leave with all the lapped cars being able to unlap themselves etc.
