With Liam Lawson's Red Bull Racing debut not going well, there's already rumours suggesting his seat would be under scrutiny by the Austrian team's leadership. Who might replace him? The Mexican fans have one name in mind. Problem is, his father, is of a different opinion.
Antonio Perez Garibay, the colourful father of Sergio Perez, has always been an ardent defender of his son's interest. When the Mexican driver's seat at Red Bull was at risk due to his lacklustre performances, it was Perez Garibay who time and time again - wrongly - reassured Perez' fans that the Mexican would be on the starting grid in 2025 defending Red Bull's colours.
Now with Lawson struggling, Mexican fans seemed to think Perez had a shot to come back to Red Bull, but Perez Garibay in conversation with Imagen Television, has squashed any and all comeback rumours: "No, Checo Perez is done with Formula 1," started the 65 year old.
"He [Perez] said so himself, and I honestly have no contact with anything related to F1 anymore," added Perez Garibay who then revealed the F1 topic is no longer discussed among the Perez's. "That topic no longer exists in my family."
So, Perez' journey in F1 is done, according to his father at least, who has been known to be wrong on his son's future in the past. "He's finished [with] the [F1] story, maybe another Pérez," concluded Perez Garibay.
Red bull made the same mistake countless times. They keep promoting the person who is not ready for that step and ruining careers. Albon is showing now, he is more than capable but he wasnt given the time he needed to settle in F1 before being thrust into the pressure cooker. Same with Gasly and others before.
The argument says but look at Piastri. McLaren are a different team entirely. They didnt have winning expectations when Piastri joined the team. They didnt lump the same pressure on him to be at the front. That allowed him to drive naturally and the car just happened to be better than expected.
Being at the front and being expected to be at the front by the team are very different from a driver perspective.
Nah. If RB removes Lawson from that No 2 RB seat, it definitely wont be Checo but Yuki will be the most logical driver to get that seat.
However, whether he will be quicker in the Racing Bulls or the Red Bull car is an interesting question as Yuki (and even Hadjar) seem to be able to get more speed from the Racing Bulls than Lawson can in the Red Bull.
