Max on women in F1: 'Physically they can handle it'

Over recent years, there has been a push to support women in motorsport. First, there was the W-series, and the F1 Academy has existed since this season. Max Verstappen comes from a racing family, about which many say he got his racing talent from his mother, Sophie Kumpen.

Verstappen was asked about what he thinks it would take to get female drivers into Formula 1. He thinks it is very difficult for women to get into Formula 1. Of course, only a small percentage of all drivers enter Formula 1 anyway, so for women, this percentage will be even lower because there are now fewer female drivers.

Training hard

Furthermore, women do think they can handle it physically, if they train hard. The Dutchman thinks that if you have enough talent, you can get there. "I don't think,
team bosses or people who make decisions to choose their drivers look at it like, oh, no, we only go for men. If there is a woman who is beating everyone else, then naturally they will have the opportunity to get to Formula 1," Verstappen said.

Men could not do it in Jeddah, imagine women! So funny. Max is politically correct here

I've been saying the same since this "woman into F1 campaign" started, that women are equal to men in motorsport, they don't need shortcuts or special series only for women.

It's just a business, some people get rich behind the scenes with these campaigns and it doesn't bring women closer to F1.

There are steps that you need to take to get into F1. It's karting, F4, F3, F2. By throwing them into some racing series only meant for them, will have exactly opposite effect and they get nowhere. They need to race against men since karting and go through all these steps.

And you can see the same campaign in Sky F1 aswell. Where F1 drivers got exited, for women commentators, like Danica Patrick and whoever that other one is. Now think when these F1 drivers would have been replaced by some male nobodies from some random racing series. Sky F1 would have been lynched.

I would love to see woman in F1, but it has to come naturally, not with fake campaigns. Same goes for SkyF1.

I agree, a lot of this segregated sports stuff is mostly because of old traditions.
I'm not entirely sure if i want to see all sports mixed, but physically it isn't always needed.
There's still differences with the more physical sports like swimming, tennis etc., but in general, when the car is doing the running, there shouldn't be a big difference between the 2 (or 1000 if you're one of those :P speaking of which.. it will be a matter of time)

Obviously.
Many drivers that come in from F2 know that they have to train their neck muscles even more, no matter how good they were in the other competitions.
And it's not like they have to go bodybuilding either, so the women wouldn't be looking like She-Hulks either (speaking of which, i haven't watched the show, but i think Tatiana Maslany looks good).
So i'm sure it is possible.

This is a good and true statement concerning the future of female drivers in F1.

If they could have the same stamina while being smaller and a few kg lighter it could even be a serious advantage. You can gain skill with practice on track but you can't change your DNA. It would be interesting to see if a few women were brought up the way Max was, with racing in mind since a very young age with racer parents.
