Antonio Perez Garibay is making headlines, and once again it's for his predictions regarding his son, Sergio Perez, and the latter's potential comeback to F1, which, according to Perez Garibay will only happen for one reason, to see Perez Jr. become world champion.
As the 2024 season ended, so did Sergio Perez' tenure at Red Bull Racing expire. Why? His lacklustre perfomances which heavily impacted the Austrian team's hopes to clinch its third Constructors' title on the trot. With the Mexican driver being replaced by Liam Lawson as of this year, Perez Jr. has often been linked to a return to F1, primarily by Mexican outlets, who seem to believe there could be a seat lined up for the now Red Bull ambassador in the recently confirmed Cadillac team.
Quoted by ESPN prior to a Mexican football match between Cruz Azul and Rayados de Monterrey, Perez Garibay took time to address the theories surrounding his son's potential return to F1 with Cadillac. "What Sergio is cooking up is something very big for the Mexican fans, they will be very happy, very proud, we hope that all this will last for many more years.”
"Sergio is only looking forward to getting back, to become champion, that is the only thing that's missing". Perez Garibay then elaborated further. "In other words, he would have nothing else to return to Formula 1 for, if not to become world champion. He is F1's world runner-up, something we have never had in Mexico."
According to Sergio Perez' father, the former Red Bull driver could have been on the grid this year, but the offers his father alleges to have been issued to the Mexican driver were not up to his standards. "He had opportunities and open doors with other teams to stay this year, but the level he wants to be at was not good. He deserves to be fighting at the front,” Perez Garibay concluded.

Perez' father: 'If Checo comes back it will be to become Crash-Champion'
Both drivers are solid and would add value to a new team that's finding their way . They also have big money backing which also helps and they do have potential to win podiums .
See this article is not max related. Is this maybe the reason Me, myself and Irene don't post in here.
Yeah Checo and Ricciardo both had long enough in the Red Bull to outshine everyone including Max....but they didn't and that will be the same result if they ever get back into F1
He couldn't do it in the most dominant car in history of the sport and just barely dragged it into 2nd place, I reckon that ship has well and truly sailed back to the gulf of Mexico. I can't see Andretti (if indeed they sign him) being the dominant team either when they enter next year. Perez would be better going to FE, at least then he can show what he's made of ?
A couple of weeks ago my YouTube algorithm recommended this video about what’s the most dominant F1 car statistically. Quite interesting. https://youtu.be/2jmpkjW1KT0?si=RebbEhj1AHF1945b But yes, Perez should have been closer to Verstappen to make these claims from Perez sr anywhere close to credible
I didn't know Perez was driving for mercedes between 2014 to 2021. How did I miss out on seven years of my life!!!
I think we fell asleep because it was so boring....But we woke up in 2016 and went back to sleep again...Lol..
Lol. I'm so happy that the rest of the field catched up to Redbull. Driving a fast car for years and dominating the opposition can be a bad thing for your racing career. It takes the skill of hard racing away. Then after some time when you must drive an average car again your racing instinct is not as sharp as it used to be. It's almost time for what I think is going to be an epic season. The battle between teammates at McLaren and Ferrari is going to be interesting. Mercedes and Redbull will have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to be in the mix for the constructors. The clever money will be on McLaren but if Lewis can adapt to the Ferrari quickly then it's going to be interesting.
Going to be very interesting year so many things to look at...Enjoy the weekend racing, racing Bull...
Daniel Ricciardo was saying the same thing. Never happened, and he now has accepted that it will never happen. Perez (father or son) should accept it as well, and move on.
