Stewards declare Hamilton punished; Red Bull can still appeal

Lewis Hamilton not only received a ten-second time penalty in the British Grand Prix but also saw two penalty points added to his licence. The Mercedes driver now stands on four accumulated points in a twelve-month period.

When collecting twelve points in a year a driver gets a one-race suspension. That is not an issue for Hamilton for the time being.

The stewards have also made public the document describing what led them to decide to give Hamilton a ten-second penalty. Red Bull still has the opportunity to appeal the decision.

Stewards explain penalty Hamilton

They don't call him "Mad Max" for no apparent reason. He has been bullying his way past Hamilton and other drivers for that fact for quite some time up to yesterday. I can only hope he now realises the dangers of his driving style and that Hamilton has put to arrest Max's gun-ho driving. If anything, Mad Max had it coming.

Hamilton immediately stated he was in front but I don't think he was. Toto Wolff saw that it was bull shit, so he stated that Hamilton was almost next to Verstappen and he touched the Apex. But Hamilton greatly missed the apex.

Hamilton and Toto Wolff knew very well that they had to shock Verstappenn in order to have any chance on the championship. I am happy to see that Max has survived. It was race accident between two fast racers, but it was clear who was responsible and got punished.

Bradley Trichardt 19 July 2021 at 08:11+ 133

Max does the same when in the inside line ,then Hamilton slows down ,He was taught a Good lessen ,been shocked Echo Max response this is racing .Racing Incident. Then Max should get many penalties for Squeezing past in many races .Deal with it .

Just racing incident.. I saw Max did the same thing before this if I'm not mistake to Leclerc and somehow no penalty for him.

MVM 19 July 2021 at 07:40+ 291

I hope RBR will protest requesting at least the eqiliser...

Horner is a whinging parrot

MVM 19 July 2021 at 07:39+ 291

I wonder what would be your comment if it was the other way round?

Scott Hawthorne 18 July 2021 at 23:21+ 14

It was a first lap racing incident, pure and simple. Notice, Ferrari weren’t complaining when Hamilton used the same track positioning to pass LeClerc to take the win. Difference being LeClerc didn’t deliberately turn into Hamilton whilst alongside. A message has been sent to the churlish brat.

MVM 19 July 2021 at 07:36+ 291

What happened to Ferrari driver at that point, pushed wide, almost ended in the wall as MV did....LH is a loose canon

Scott Hawthorne 18 July 2021 at 23:17+ 14

Cheating team, who don’t like it up ‘em!

Roter 18 July 2021 at 22:48+ 77

You guys all of you witch guy had race line? Hamilton had race line he was inside so it was a accident nothing els! Hamilton got his punishment. Swap the cars around what would max do? If it was max that put Hamilton in the wall? Remember that and rubing is racing even with open wheels.

Lewis has along history of punting competitors. I want to know is how much more power do they give Lewis in these moments to come back thru the field. Personally when a drive is at fault for causing a collision and the other driver is eliminated due to the crash both should be out of the race. Like track limits. When it’s grass and gravel no one goes near. If you spin someone
To get by it should be a stop and go or a drive thru. At min I feel the penalty should equal the loss of the driver spun

NicodeBeer1972 18 July 2021 at 20:42+ 104

They knew a 10s penalty would make no difference especially if you don't serve it within 3 laps and they are allowed to change tyres... What the point in that?

moe 18 July 2021 at 19:55+ 60

Norway456...DIVERGENT with Caps and poor Pren. IT IS RACING INCIDENT. You guys should get off your whitesplaining and move on. HAMILTON WON. PERIOD

Charles345th 18 July 2021 at 20:11+ 4784

We just point out he can't drive..period

Pren 18 July 2021 at 20:15+ 2131

Using the term whitesplaining here to counter argue, tells enough by itself, but just for the sake of clarity, it was not a racing incident, it was a foul, for which Hamilton was punished extremely light.

But, if it makes you feel better, keep race in as part of your argument. It only tells us more on what you are ?

Pedro Faberlle 18 July 2021 at 19:35+ 222

RedBull shouldn’t be complaining about this kind of racing contacts. This is what F1 is all about. It’s not a driving Miss Daisy thing, it’s a”macho” thing. If RB start whinnying for a racing contact,it’s better for them to quit, and stay in the energy drink business.F1 hard racing is for the ones with the courage to go to the limits, no whining accepted. Many great & courageous drivers have been lost as a result of car racing, and they knew of the dangers of the sport. My point, car racing isn’t for the weak.During a race, drivers have to make split second decisions while moving @200 mph, there is not much time for analysis or judgement. You cannot criticize or abuse a driver for an split second wrong/right decision. Hamilton made a decision to slip inside Max and that is it,no time to get it back.

Warren Markwell 18 July 2021 at 19:45+ 59

That's a bloody stupid thing to say. It's not banger racing or touring car. Hamilton disgraced himself today.

moe 18 July 2021 at 19:57+ 60

No he didn't. AGAIN RACING INCIDENT. Served his penalty. Don't Whitesplain....

Charles345th 18 July 2021 at 20:10+ 4784

Nope...this is why he got a penalty.

MVM 19 July 2021 at 07:30+ 291

Motor sport is not a contact sport like boxing. There is a golden rule of thumb in motoring. Anything that happens outside your periferial field of vision could not be your fault. The only steering wheels are at the front therefore the only one who could avoid the contact was LH. In my view ten second penalty was just a farce. He was suppose to be black flaged for sending MV in to the wall with 53 G deceleration. RBR should protest this stewards rilling requesting LH to be stripped of all earned points plus one race ban. It's motor racing not boxing contest...

oluolas 18 July 2021 at 19:22+ 269

Hamilton must be ban for two race.

moe 18 July 2021 at 20:00+ 60

You shouldn't watch Motoracing. Awful perspective you are giving there with your bad grammar. "BANNED" Not "BAN"

Charles345th 18 July 2021 at 20:08+ 4784

I could point out several mistakes in your text. I guess your not native English?

Pren 18 July 2021 at 19:15+ 2131

This was a clear assault of Hamilton on Verstappen. He was behind and new he would not be able to get past him after lap one, so he just nudged off Verstappen. The 10 second penalty and 2 points are an insult to injury. Not only did Hamilton willingly push his main contender off track to gain a massive advantage, he did so in one of the most dangerous moves possible this season.

To make matters worse, he still claims he was in the right and clearly can't be arsed to check if Verstappen is truly okay after the race.
