Antonio Perez on Sergio Perez future in Formula 1
19 December at 20:00

Speaking to Grupo Formula reacting to Sergio Perez's departure from Red Bull Racing, Antonio Perez Garibay, the former Austrian team's driver's father, has spoken about his son's future in motorsport and he is adamant: Big F1 team or retirement.

As has been the norm for a while now, Perez sr. has spoken and his words have been picked up by the media. This time the Mexican legislator has taken a dig at Sauber and Haas, deeming them unfit for his son to continue F1 career, were the opportunity arise for the recently ousted Mexican driver.

"Checo, I'm sure that the door is not closed, if something very good and very big comes in Formula One. If I'm not sure, the door has been closed, I have no doubt. I don't think Checo will go to any team like Sauber, Haas, do you understand me? Checo either signed with a big team or did something else, or the door is closed here," Perez sr. began.

Perez sr. will have none of it: Big F1 team or retirement!

Despite the lack of results being the reason behind Sergio Perez being replaced with Liam Lawson by Red Bull, the 65 year old Mexican is resolute in his response, if one of the big five don't come a-knocking, Perez will have raced his last race, not just in F1, though, since apparently, according to his father, all other forms of motorsport are also off the table for his son.

"I'm sure that's Checo Pérez. There's no Indycar anymore, there's no NASCAR anymore, there's no Le Mans anymore. I'm 100% sure of this. That's why I tell you, if there's no big team, no big offer for Checo Pérez, this was his last race," he concluded.

Perez' father also said during the same interview that the best of his son was yet come, a phrase he repeated often in recent times when rumours surrounding his son's departure from Red Bull and F1 altogether were spreading like wildfire across the paddock.
