Mexican medium lashes out at Red Bull's Helmut Marko

Red Bull advisor Marko under fire in Mexico: 'He does defend Lawson!'

Helmut Marko was once again pointed out by Mexican media. A leading website, Esto, find it hard to understand why the Red Bull advisor was not so strong in terms of his verdict on Liam Lawson's performance in Australia.

Lawson did not have the best of starts to his first season in a Red Bull Racing car in Melbourne. Last weekend, the New Zealander got eliminated already in Q1, and then crashed in the rainy conditions on Sunday.

In their article, the Mexican website points to Marko's responses to when Sergio Perez was in a similar situation the previous season. "He does defend him! Helmut Marko justifies poor performance Liam Lawson at Australia GP," headlines the medium, in support of their compatriot, who was let go by Red Bull at the end of the previous season.

'Perez received different treatment to Lawson'

Esto then continues, "Helmut Marko seems to have softened. He did not attack Liam Lawson for his poor performance, but instead tried to protect him from criticism." The comparison is then quickly made to how Marko dealt with Perez, as the Mexicans explain, the Austrian was "very critical".

Moreover, Marko is also called "the controversial Red Bull advisor" in the article. However, they do not mention the fact that it was Lawson's debut for Red Bull, while Perez got criticised driving his fourth season for the team.
