Charles Leclerc has won the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. 'Il Predestinato' has now won in Italy for the second time in his career, making the Tifosi very happy at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. Max Verstappen on the other hand had a worse day in Italy, where he finished in P6. The Dutchman criticised his team, while the Austrians were happy with McLaren's lack of team orders. GPblog bring you the best news of the day from 'The Temple of Speed'.

Leclerc wins in Monza

Following an eventful race at the Italian Grand Prix, it was Charles Leclerc who could stay ahead of the two McLaren cars pulling off a great one-stop strategy, and as a result, he won his second Grand Prix of the year. The Monegasque driver was ecstatic following his second win at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

Oscar Piastri finished second on Sunday, while Lando Norris finished in P3. The Briton could therefore earn 8 more points than Max Verstappen, thanks to also claiming the fastest lap of the race. You can see here where things stand at the moment in the drivers' championship.

Verstappen criticises Red Bull and McLaren's (lack of) team orders

Following the Grand Prix, the Dutchman did not hold back about the RB20 and his team. "Last year we had a great car, which was the most dominant car ever, and we basically turned it into a monster," he told GPblog among others. Helmut Marko could only argue with the defending world champion, and also named where the team are currently struggling.

However, Marko was thankful to McLaren, who following the Hungarian GP, once again decided not to order Piastri give up his position. Team principal Christian Horner could only agree with Marko on this matter as well. McLaren team principal Andrea Stella however underlined that his team will adjust the 'Papaya rules' in order to fight for both championships this season.

Magnussen banned

On Lap 18, into Turn 4, Kevin Magnussen tried to overtake Pierre Gasly's Alpine. The two driver made contact, and the Dane received a ten-second penalty for 'causing a collision' by the stewards. That meant that Magnussen has now reached 12 penalty points, and therefore will be banned from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

GPblog have since learned that Oliver Bearman will replace Kevin Magnussen in Baku. It would be the second time this season the young Briton has to sub in, as he had to replace Carlos Sainz back at the Saudi Arabian GP.
