It would be a "no brainer" for Bottas to stay on at Mercedes in 2021
Valtteri Bottas has suggested if he is to stay in Formula 1 beyond next season and into 2021 he would prefer to do it with Mercedes if the decision had to be made now.
The Finn is entering his fourth season as a Mercedes driver and teammate to Lewis Hamilton. After the best performing season of his career in 2019 the former-Williams driver held onto his seat for 2020.
After a tough 2018 which saw him win no races, Bottas looks to be back on track. With several drivers' contracts up next season the Finn is excited by what next season has to offer and suggested where he wants his F1 future to be.
"I think it's going to be an interesting season for sure," Bottas said as quoted by GPToday.net.
"I can't remember a time where so many people are expiring with contracts. Of course, me, like every other driver will look at all the possible options.
"Now, if I could decide on my future for 2021 it would be a no brainer to continue with this team. I really enjoy it here, we are performing better and better and I am becoming a better driver all of the time."
Every single driver on the grid but one would sell their soul to get the Mercedes driver. That single driver is Hamilton, who is the only driver who might choose Ferrari over Mercedes because of a possible desire for a fresh start. But I think he will retire as a Mercedes driver in three years from now.
I've got Lewis somewhere between 3&5 years. Just a guess, but again, I'll have to ask him.
Should Valtteri continue to improve in 2020 he's a shoe in at Mercedes. He also knows other teams wouldn't mind having his services either.
If Ferrari can't have Lewis don't think they'd scoff at Valtteri. He's a great team player and imagine he'd come with a wealth of Mercedes knowledge as well.
If Lewis jumps Mercedes has to retain his services. Promote George Russell come 2021. Mercedes is prepared for all scenarios.
He's in the "Catbirds" seat so to speak...he's earned it. Better yet...he knows it to.
