Sophie Kumpen looks with pride at the achievements of her son
Max Verstappen. The Dutchman's family had to sacrifice a lot to reach the world championship in
Formula 1.
"You’re so proud as a mum you know. It was a long way for us to become world champion, and we had to sacrifice a lot as a family. It’s the best achievement you can get as a driver", Kumpen says in the
F1 Nation-Podcast. Jos Verstappen is more prominent than the F1 driver's mother, but Kumpen was a fast driver herself. It is therefore clear that Verstappen got his talents from his mother as well.
"You know Max is a fighter. He will always fight for his position. He gets that a little bit from his mum." 'I'm always nervous'
Despite Kumpen's own experience in motor racing, she is still nervous for her son during every race. " I don’t know how the other mothers do it, because I am always nervous when he’s driving. Because I know he is always pulling a move."
