The battle between Mercedes and Red Bull Racing has raged since the Silverstone race. At the press conference prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix both teams complained about their competitor once again. Kees van de Grint is concerned about the situation between the top teams.
Formula 1 is known as a sport where supporters from all the teams can sit between each other, but the analyst sees this changing. "There are fringe issues where you start to think: how long is this going to go well? Let's hope common sense prevails and we come to watch. And that we can also appreciate that your favourite doesn't win, like Verstappen being the big loser from this weekend," he told RTL Slipstream.
Van de Grint, however, remains hopeful that things will not go the wrong way with Formula 1. "Indeed, the beauty of motorsport was always that whatever opinion you have and whatever you represent, you could be sociable with each other. I do find that worrying."
Max Verstappen failed to get beyond a ninth-place finish in Hungary due to damage to his car, while Hamilton finished second. As a result, the Englishman is eight points ahead in the world championship. After the summer break, the drivers will start in Belgium.
Couldn't agree more with this article, f1 is like a community, a family but some of the comments recently are really toxic and definitely not in the spirit of the sport. You can't be a fan of formula one yet single out and boo and attack drivers. Also the level of ignorance is confounding! Are these the new breed of F1 fans who haven't followed the sport for years? Both on track and off track. I've lost a lot of respect for red bull over the recent years exponentially so over recent weeks. I don't like the gas lighting and the bitchiness it's pathetic at this level. Red bull are sinking to new lows and I hope for the sports sake they clean up their act.
It only got toxic because of the stupid rules. If they were honest, like for who pays the bill now there is a budget cap, it would have been something to live. And there was not so much left to feed the extreme Ham and the ultra Max trolls with.
Lewis and these mercedes fans are the ones being toxic though. I hve never seen a max fan denie a reckless move of the young verstappen, meanwhile starting from.pole and end up 3rd in the by far best car, makes him the goat because he fell down.to 14th?
What kind of tribalism is that.
Mercedes messing up red bulls chances this wdc and nobody bats an eye. Thats why the toxicity grows, because its messed up.
Do Max fans accept his hypocrisy by comparing the Silverstone crash to his crash with Stroll in FP2 at Portugal 2020, where Max and Horner were hysterical that Stroll had turned into him? Blind by hate and bias. At a track notoriously difficult for overtaking, regardless of car performance, Ham had a fair few overtakes to say the least, including a ridiculous pass on Yuki at T4. Ppl have short memories and forget how Alo defended in Sprint quali at Silverstone where it is so much easier to overtake. Toxic fans
